Only the hotel is now off season and crumbling to pieces. She has to share the beach and hotel with a grumpy man who has his own issues to deal with.
I felt the plot was quite static and not a lot happened. The characters were eccentric and the hotel couldn‘t function in real life. 3🌟
pickI love this story and grew up with it. It‘s a very inspiration plot about a girl who was tragically attacked by a shark when she was surfing. The story is about how she overcomes and still peruses her passion of surfing.

pickTook a looking time to get through this but I loved the cast of characters.
pickMaudie lives with her mom and stepdad during the school year but is starting another summer with her dad when they have to evacuate due to a wildfire. As they find a place to stay near the beach, Maudie begins making new friends. As the reader learns about autism through her experiences, she keeps secrets from her dad about learning to surf and life with her mom. I loved Maudie‘s first person story.

so-soWanted to love this more than I did. It was readable enough, the characters endearing enough, and the concept engaging enough. But it was also slow, and there was a bit too much going on. If Kinsella had stuck to the “burnout” concept, mined it a bit more deeply, and shaved 100 pages off this, it would have fired better for me.
pickIf you, too, are suffering from burnout, reading this may not be the kind of catharsis you‘re looking for. I found it kind of stressful to read about a character experiencing *some* of the same feelings that I have been (though in a very dramatized way) — and knowing that everything‘s about to change…for her. However, despite requiring some suspension of disbelief, the story is grounded in sweetness & earnestness, & it had me laughing ALL the way.
so-soThis was advertised as a story about a woman finding herself after her marriage to a Hollywood star ends but the bulk of the book is the tale of their fairytale courtship. By the time the marriage ends there only about 80 pages left. So her recovery from anger and grief, learning a new skill (which does help her process), and falling in love again all happens so quickly that I found myself rolling my eyes.
