“That was the thing about words, they were clear and specific - chair, eye, #stone - but when you talked about feelings, words were too stiff, they were this and not that, they couldn't include all the meanings. In defining, they always left something out.” #QuotsyOct21

I‘ve been reading this one for the past month to get design ideas for our backyard! Wish it had a better variety of examples, a lot of landscaping featured homes on wooded lots. I did find a few useful ideas though, especially to turn our drainage easement into a dry creek bed.

Cinfhen Cool choice 💕 3y
SamAnne Do you have any books you recommend? I probably need one geared towards the dry Inland NW focused on pollinator plants and low water. The earth can‘t support lawns in low water, desert climes. But also looking for good ideas on structure and design! 3y
alisiakae @SamAnne not yet, but I‘ll let you know if I find something. We‘ll be taking away most of our grass for a similar reason, our hot summers aren‘t great for grass either. We plan on planting a lot of trees at the back of our yard where our lot meets the woods. 3y
BarbaraTheBibliophage Planning a project like this is so daunting!! Sorry the book wasn‘t more help. 🌱 3y

A poem is a stone
you pick up from a
great cliff or a sidewalk
and keep on your shelf;
Or that one finds to
cast into the depths of the self.

A poem is a stone
that is tossed in a child's game,
or planted in the memory of a man's life.

From “Pushing Through”

“It‘s possible I am pushing through solid rock in flintlike layers, as the ore lies, alone; I am such a long way in I see no way through, and no space: everything is close to my face, and everything close to my face is stone.”
