Next up for #NewYearWhoDis is one from my shelves. I was immediately drawn to this one in the store, but for some reason I've kept passing it over for other reads.

On e-book, I just downloaded Warrior from OverDrive. I'm on the holds lists for 4-5 more, so I'll continue reading your picks, @MeganAnn as they come in!

@monalyisha

Insightsintobooks I love this book, it is one of my favorites! 6y
Suet624 I‘ve done the exact same thing with this book. 6y
Crazeedi I enjoyed this one 6y

MeganAnn Ooo I hope you enjoy this one! I picked it up because it was recommended by @Cinfhen for @Kalalalatja ‘s #recommendationschallenge2018 list. Definitely different from the others you‘ve read so far. ✨ Warrior is a great under appreciated fantasy story with strong female characters which has been my go-to for many years. 6y
Cinfhen I really hope you love this book!!! I was so drawn to the story and all the history @MeganAnn @TheKidUpstairs (edited) 6y
TheKidUpstairs @MeganAnn loving it so far. I had to stop for a bit because Isak just walked Ina into the river 😭😭😭😭 I'm having issues with Warrior loading into my Kobo 😤 But hopefully I can get them sorted shortly! 6y
MeganAnn @Cinfhen yes that‘s what I was drawn to as well! 6y
MeganAnn @TheKidUpstairs oh my that part had me in tears too 😭😭😭 Technology is great until it doesn‘t work. Hope you get it figured out soon!! 6y

New Year's Resolutions | New York Times
post image

I have been going back and forth about my resolutions, but now, a week into the New Year, I finally think I have settled on something.

So, in 2019 I will...
- try to finish the books from my #RecommendationsChallenge2018
- do #Booked2019
- use the library and audiobooks more, especially for nonfiction
- read as much as possible and don‘t stress about it

#ReadingResolutions

Tamra Yay for the last resolution! 👍🏾👍🏾 6y
Reviewsbylola Those are great! 6y
AnneCecilie Love your resolutions 6y

Bailedbailed

It pains me, but I‘m putting this down for now. The writing is lovely, but somehow, I‘m just not that interested. I have to “force” myself to pick it up, and I‘m struggling with staying focused on the text. So I think it is time to realize this just isn‘t working for me at the moment 🤷‍♀️

#RecommendationsChallenge2018

TrishB I know when I‘m hesitant to pick back up that I should just bail! 6y
erzascarletbookgasm It‘s a pity, the edition is gorgeous and it sounds intriguing..but if you‘re hesitant, time to move on! 6y
ephemeralwaltz You do you! Lovely edition but we all have gorgeous editions of books we aren't picking up anytime soon 😂👏 6y

ferskner Nooooooooooooo!!!! I'm sorry it didn't work for you. I hope you'll want to come back to it eventually! 6y
Kalalalatja @ferskner I was really bummed as well, but I think it might be timing (hopefully) 🤞 6y
hilded I struggled with this one as well, spend several months getting through it, had to take long breaks between each tale. Still, there was just something about it. Her writing is exquisite. And I really liked 6y

Cutting for Stone: A Novel | Abraham Verghese

Pickpick

What an in incredible book. I‘m left stunned, and tired because I couldn‘t go to bed without finishing this today. This is a family saga, but it is also so much more. It reminded me a bit of Pachinko, in that it taught me a lot about another country‘s history, and it showed how fate can play a hand in people‘s lives. Just stunning!

I started this today, and so far it is as great as everyone has said it is. A big, family saga-ish book seems to be just what I need at the moment 👌

This is also one of the books I was supposed to read for my #RecommendationsChallenge2018. And while I don‘t think I‘ll be able to finish the challenge in 2018, I have read so many great books because of it, so I‘m planning on reading from it in 2019 as well 👍

#currentlyreading

Tamra It‘s one you don‘t want to end! 6y
Cathythoughts Brilliant! I must read soon ,so much Litsy love for this book ♥️♥️♥️ 6y

A Ladder to the Sky | John Boyne
post image

I have spent the day with my bf and his parents for an early birthday celebration. I got a lot of lovely gifts, and I‘m especially excited about my bookish gifts (obviously). I‘m already planning on starting the tagged book tomorrow, and I can‘t wait to read more books by Winman after loving Tin Man last year. And Cutting for Stone is part of my #RecommendationsChallenge2018, so I really need to get to it soon 📚

MommyWantsToReadHerBook And I also want to read more Sarah Winman! Enjoy your lovely presents! 6y

Crazeedi These all look good! Happy early birthday to you🎂🎉 6y
Kalalalatja @TrishB I know, you have given me high hopes for all of them! 🤞 @MommyWantsToReadHerBook I have heard so much good about GfS, and I‘m really looking forward to it. And Tin Man broke me last year, so I‘m interested in seeing how Winman‘s other books are 👌 @RealLifeReading thank you! ☺️ 6y
Kalalalatja @Crazeedi thank you, and happy birthday to you! Hope you have had a great day 🎉 6y
Cathythoughts I have Cutting for Stone ... must get to it 💫 6y
emilyhaldi Oh! I haven't heard anything about Winman's other books. Excited to see what you think! 6y
TrishB Ohhh I hope you like them now 🤞🏻 6y
Julsmarshall Cutting for Stone is so amazing! I still think about that books years after reading it! 6y
BarbaraBB What a great gifts! A Ladder and Cutting for Stone are both amazing and I am really looking forward to other books by Sarah Winman as well! 6y
callielafleur Cutting For Stone is amazing. What a great haul! 6y
JennyM Such great book choices! 6y
erzascarletbookgasm These are great books, I‘ve heard! I‘ve not read any of them, though I have the two Winnan books on my TBR. 6y
Kalalalatja @Cathythoughts @Julsmarshall @callielafleur you all are making me super excited to read it! @emilyhaldi I know @TrishB has read them, and recommended them, so I‘m hopeful 🤞 @BarbaraBB @JennyM @erzascarletbookgasm my in laws really did well this year (tbh I gave them a wishlist with like 10 books, so they didn‘t pick them out of the blue. But they did pick the ones I‘m most excited about 😄) 6y

This book took me out of my comfort zone, and I‘m pretty sure I liked it. I‘m not saying this is my new fave, it was a solid 3,5⭐️, but it did surprise me with how readable it is, and it felt like a window into a setting I know nothing about. All the drama between the different police departments were super interesting, and for such a slow book it is a real page turner!

#JapaneseThriller #Booked2018 #RecommendationsChallenge2018

Cinfhen I own this one but the size is scaring me😳 your review gives me some hope💜 6y
Emilymdxn That‘s pretty much exactly how I felt - it wasn‘t totally me and I didn‘t love everything about it but it was so profoundly worth reading 6y
Cathythoughts Sounds good ! Stacked 6y

Kalalalatja @Cinfhen I‘ll say, it was a mistake to read this while reading Les Mis. Two chunksters at once were too much, even for me. With that being said, it is a slow read, but there is something compelling about it as well, which kept me turning the pages. Hope you‘ll feel the same, when (if) you pick it up 🤞 6y
Kalalalatja @Emilymdxn definitely! @Cathythoughts 👏👏👏 6y
BarbaraBB Yay, you‘ve made it 👍👏 6y
Mdargusch I‘m glad you made it through it and liked it! 6y
Kalalalatja @BarbaraBB @Mdargusch I‘m glad I did, but I‘m glad I‘m done now 😅 6y
Mdargusch That‘s why I read Confessions instead of this chunkster! 🤣 6y

This book keeps screaming #TakeAChanceOnMe, but I keep picking up other books instead. However, I WILL read this before September is over, because this will be my #JapaneseThriller for #Booked2018. I‘m just not a big thriller/crime reader, so this is really outside my comfort zone.

If you can, please convince me to pick this up!

#ABBAinAugust

Cinfhen Wish I could help but it‘s a #chunkster so it scared me off!!! I have heard pretty good reviews - I NEED you to convince me to read it 💕 6y
TrishB And this picture makes it look even bigger!! 6y
Emilymdxn I enjoyed this one!! I will say that it didn‘t FEEL that much like a thriller to me as I read it, it was very character-driven rather than plot-driven with a lot of introspection in there - which probably contributes to the length but meant it felt like a lot more than a thriller to me ☺️ 6y
See All 10 Comments
ElishaLovesBooks I feel the same! I need to read one of these too for the challenge but I‘m a little scared! 🙈 6y
Mdargusch Oh dear. Chunksters are not my favorite. I still need a book for this challenge prompt too! 6y
Kalalalatja @Cinfhen I‘ll see what I can do! I must admit its size scares me a bit, too, which isn‘t normal for me! I think it because it is outside my normal genres as well 🤷‍♀️ @TrishB it actually does look pretty big in this pic 😆 @Emilymdxn I have heard that too, and I‘m hoping that will be my experience as well! 🤞 6y
Kalalalatja @ElishaLovesBooks @Mdargusch it scares me too! I picked this because it is part of my #RecommendationsChallenge2018 too, but it is really outside my wheel house. 😳 6y
emilyhaldi Oh boy me too 😲 Its hard to pick up a chunkster you're unsure about when there are SO many other books in my stacks 😅 but perhaps I will pick this up next week... 6y
Reviewsbylola I still need to read my Japanese thriller too. 6y

On paper, this book sounds right up my alley: a woman is tired of dealing with society‘s and her family‘s expectations and needs, and moves to the country to start living her life. But the writing style was just so boring! I don‘t know how many naps I have taken to get through this book, I just couldn‘t keep my eyes open. I really wanted to like this, but it was just boring 🤷‍♀️

#RecommendationsChallenge2018 #Booked2018 #BlameitonLitsy

emilyhaldi That was the consensus from @Reviewsbylola too ☹️ too bad bc I own this but will probably never pick it up! 6y
batsy I hope you don't hold it against me 😂❤️ 6y
Kalalalatja @batsy not at all! I can totally see why people like it, I thought I would really like it too, but the style of writing was just a complete miss 😂 6y
See All 11 Comments
Kalalalatja @emilyhaldi you can always give it a try, and see if the writing style is more to your taste. But I would keep my expectations loooooow! 6y
batsy Yes, I totally understand! I've recommended it to several people and the reaction is always pretty divisive; they either love it or hate it 😆 6y
Reviewsbylola I could have written this review. Dreadful book. 6y
BarbaraTheBibliophage Aww bummer. Good on you for finishing! ♥️ 6y
Cinfhen @Reviewsbylola panned this book too so I did the gracious thing and gave book away to a more interested household. And she HATED it too!!!! Sorry @batsy 😛 6y
batsy @Cinfhen 😆 6y
rubyslippersreads @batsy I still want to give it a try. 😊 6y
batsy @rubyslippersreads I'm so afraid to recommend this now. But I hope you like it if you give it a go 😊❤️ 6y

This book isn‘t really grapping my attention, but I‘m hoping eating cake while reading it might make it more enjoyable 🤞

Weaponxgirl I felt the same way when I read this. I just felt like I missed a lot of the details importance. Was a pity as I really wanted to love this one 6y
Jess_Read_This Oh no! This one has been sitting on my shelf staring me down to get it read this year. I hope it gets better! 6y

batsy I'm sorry to hear that! On the plus side, that pastry looks great 😆 6y
readordierachel Cake always helps 🍰 6y
Kalalalatja @Weaponxgirl exactly! @Jess_Read_This it might be, that I‘m just not reading it at the right time. 🤷‍♀️ @hgrimes that it does! @batsy me too, I had high hopes for it. There‘s just something about the style that makes it hard for me to keep focus 👎 @ReadOrDieRachel @vivastory #cakeforlife ❤️❤️❤️ 6y
