I read this book for a reading challenge, a book by a Sami author. I liked the insight into Sami culture. The main character is part of a family of reindeer herders. He is struggling with his new feelings for his best friend, because as far as he knows there has never been a gay reindeer herder. This story really conveys the power of representation and the strength it gives to the next generation to be confident in themselves

Her mama tries hard and there is never enough $$ even with both parents working 2-3 jobs. Her papa becomes cruel to his wife and kids which worsens with his alcoholism…

I love learning about indigenous cultures home and abroad, and reading fiction written by Indigenous authors. This story ebbs more than it flows. Only the protagonist is fleshed out.

This book is about a young girl named Berry and her estranged father's journey from South Africa all the way to Maryland. She was said to come to terms with the murder of her older sister Laura while she was volunteering at a school.

It really is a shame this book has such a terrible cover, because it was actually quite excellent. I don't think I would have given it a second glance if it hadn't made the Michael Printz list but I'm so glad I picked it up!

I read this lovely book in a single setting! A story about a teen dad taking care of his daughter. The story bounces between when he first learned his gf was pregnant & the present day of him being a father. Fantastic story & makes me want more Ya books starring teen dad POVs
