Okay, I‘m hooked. Weird to be reading this in the midst of a pandemic, though. #PandemicReading

Cheshirecat913 Oh gosh...I am both interested and scared after that opening! 4y
Karkar Mary needed to wash her hands!!! Lol 4y
Literatigeek I started a medical history podcast and read about the surgeon who introduced sanitary surgery to the masses; learning about how bad medicine used to be made me feel better. Also, if you‘re interested in Typhoid Mary, Anthony Bourdain wrote a novella on her, focusing on Mary‘s career as a cook and how that might of influenced her- really interesting read. 4y
BookishMarginalia @Literatigeek Thanks for the rec! I‘ll check that out! 4y

For whatever messed up reason, I put a post-pandemic zombie book in my #bookspin for May. These two sentences kicked me in the gut today. Maybe we will avoid zombies, but I‘m relating 💯 to “tooth-fairy period.”

KathyWheeler This book has been sitting on my shelf staring at me for years. I want to read it but I don‘t know if now is the time. 4y
Prairiegirl_reading See? Of the moment! Actually a genius pick if you can stomach it! 😄 4y
batsy Oh dear 😰 4y

BarbaraTheBibliophage @KathyWheeler Well, it was the same for me. It‘s not at all what I was expecting, which is both good and bad. Should be reviewing this week as I‘m almost finished. 4y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @Prairiegirl_reading Haha. Thanks for calling me a genius. 🤪 It‘s kind a really long internal monologue (with lots of stories) about adjusting to a new normal. Yes, there are zombies but it‘s not much about running from them. So the adjustment discussions feel fairly relevant. But Whitehead‘s style is so literary and even beautiful. Just not at all what I was expecting. I should have the review posted by midweek. 4y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @batsy Right? See my comments above. It‘s not as stressful as thought it might be ... 4y

1. Going out to eat and browsing in stores.

2. I have read 50 books already this year. I think that is a positive effect of the pandemic.

Starting this one. I finally need to read my last #winter prompt from #booked2020. Since this is short and #setinhollywood, I‘m on it! My second Didion book, and I‘m just a little worried about how melancholic this is supposed to be. Not sure if it will feel like a good #pandemicreading choice.

Caterina If this one ends up being too melancholic for you, I recently read an Eve Babitz book set in Hollywood that was fun and light! 5y

Cinfhen Still haven‘t read any Joan Didion yet🙁 5y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @Cinfhen This is my first of her fiction. I loved her memoir 5y
CarolynM I liked this one, but it is bleak. 5y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @CarolynM Yes indeed. Made it to about 80% today. Need lots of chocolate to counteract the sadness ... 5y

Pickpick

I'm still making my way through David Quammen's Spillover, the big pandemic book (it's brilliant) & came across that famous phrase "the curious incident of the dog in the night-time" & realised I've never read the Sherlock story it's from. So off to #serialreader I went. The story itself isn't earth-shattering, but I was happily absorbed for the 3 issues & felt cheered by the end (there's always a solution to the mystery!) Comfort #pandemicreading

batsy (Horses are a big topic in the pandemic book, too!) 5y
Lindy I like hearing about how one book leads you to another. 😊 5y
batsy @Lindy I do love it when books do that 🙂 5y

BarbaraBB So cool when that happens. I love it. 5y
batsy @rubyslippersreads Lol that gave me a good laugh 😂😂 5y
RohitSawant I bought Spillover on Kindle just days ago! Found out about the book after seeing Quammen's interview with Joe Scott on YouTube. I trust you're doing well 💜 5y
batsy @rohit-sawant Hello! It's so good to see you back 💜 i hope you and your family are doing well and safe where you are. Spillover is good! I'm excited to hear you just bought it... I need to find that interview :) 5y
