Mehso-so

So I didn‘t enjoy book 2 as much. I kept fading out of the story—it just wasn‘t keeping my attention. Mostly, I feel the issue was the character development fizzled. The characters, particularly Jinx, felt flat and just didn‘t go anywhere. But I‘m still going to go on to book 3. Maybe it will get better? 🤷🏼‍♀️ #notholdingmybreath

The Group: A Novel | Mary McCarthy
post image

A group of 8 college friends meet up a week after graduation to celebrate the wedding of one of their own. The Group then follows their lives as they each forge their own version of adulthood.

This was on my TBR for awhile because it sounds like something I would love. Then I removed it because the Litsy reviews were mediocre. Now after seeing that it was the top book for The NY Times list for #december1963, I‘m stacking. #winterwonderland

Bklover I seem to remember my mother reading this one at some point. I think she may have recommended it to me. 6y

Ruthiella I found this book fascinating! It‘s a little gossipy/soap opera like but also a look at gendered expectations and limitations placed on upper middle class white women in the mid 20th century. 😀 6y
Suet624 I think I read it years ago when I was much too young. I think it was a bit racy for its time. 6y
