#2020Favorites #NonfictionEdition

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Native - a beautifully written, challenging and hopeful book about finding and honoring your identity in the world.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Letter from Birmingham Jail - I will never not feel like I missed out by not having this seminal work taught in school.

The New Jim Crow - eyeopening and heartbreaking exploration of America's systemically racist prison system.

I think Just Mercy should be required reading for anyone in the US (living or visiting).

Hooked_on_books Yes, yes, yes! What a wonderful book! 5y

Pickpick

Revealing and incredibly researched and articulate. I had no idea just *how* deeprooted housing segregation really was, even among other civil rights advances, because of government interference and laws on all levels. A great book to read alongside EVICTED by Matthew Desmond and essential reading for US citizens.

Riveted_Reader_Melissa I‘ll second all of that! I read this one last year and I‘m still thinking about it. Anytime anyone brings up reparations and how long ago all that was...I think of this book!!!! It was ingrained and institutionalized by the government, why shouldn‘t there be settlements in the favor of people systematically wronged. 5y
parasolofdoom @Riveted_Reader_Melissa I definitely want to give this to anyone who doesn't think institutionalized racism is a thing 5y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @parasolofdoom Yes! I also recommended it to people who read Evicted, both ended up on my Top 10 of the Decade too #NonFictionEdition 5y
BarbaraTheBibliophage This book was amazing! I really need to read Evicted also. 5y
parasolofdoom @BarbaraTheBibliophage Evicted was incredible, one of my favorite nonfiction books 5y

I am late to the party but wanted to post my #Top10oftheDecade #NonFictionEdition. Although I have always read some nonfiction over there years Litsy has certainly helped broaden my horizons in the this genre. These are the best of the bunch in the last 10 years.

Cinfhen I love seeing everyone‘s picks!! Thanks so much for sharing 🙌🏻❣️I‘ve read a bunch on your list and agree😁 5y

Here's my #Top10oftheDecade #NonFictionEdition Many of these books changed the way I view the world.

alisiakae I‘ve read half of these! And the other half are on my TBR. Have you read Just Mercy or The New Jim Crow? Looking at this list, I think you would like both of those. (edited) 5y
Eggbeater @4thhouseontheleft I haven't read those. I will check them out. Thanks! 5y

Since I read fiction, nonfiction, ya, and graphic novels, I cheated and picked 10 from each category so I didn't have to narrow down too much. Choosing these was like picking which pet or kid I love more...😂

Here's my #Top10oftheDecade #NonfictionEdition.

Any friends who have not already done this, I'd love to see your picks.

Scochrane26 I didn‘t put the Mister Rogers bio on my list, but I loved it. 5y
Addison_Reads @Scochrane26 I still want to go watch the Tom Hanks movie too. Have you seen it? 5y
Scochrane26 @Addison_Reads Yes, I saw it during thanksgiving. It‘s really good but not a bio exactly. The main focus is on a reporter who interviewed mister Rogers & developed a friendship. It had some powerful moments, & Tom Hanks is amazing. 5y
Crazeedi @Addison_Reads just saw the movie with my girls, my youngest and I had a daily routine of Mr Rogers when she was little. We loved it, lots of good cry moments 5y

My #top10ofthedecade #nonfictionedition 12, because again, I cheat.

Emilymdxn Great choices! Evicted and collected schizophrenias are two of my favourite reads of all time. I forgot collected schizophrenias in my list and feel bad now it definitely deserved to be there 5y
LeahBergen The Brontësaurus and Bookworm. ???? 5y

Aimeesue @squirrelbrain Evicted is eye-opening, but frustrating and sad. I saw Desmond at the National Book Festival a couple years ago talking about this book, so obviously I had to buy it. No choice, really. 5y
Aimeesue @Emilymdxn Its a great book! 5y
Aimeesue @LeahBergen Pretty sure I bought The Brontësaurus because you posted about it! I loved it. 5y
Megabooks I‘ve read 7/12 and loved all of them! 5y
Daisey I‘ve listened to a few of these on audio and a few more are on my TBR. Great list! 5y
Cinfhen 12 does look nicer 😜 5y
vivastory I love Ronson & I think about "So You've Been Publicly Shamed" often. Great list!! 5y
Aimeesue @Megabooks Clearly, we have great taste! 5y
Aimeesue @Daisey IMO, everyone should listen to Born A Crime. Such great narration! 5y
Aimeesue @Cinfhen Right? Much neater! 5y
Aimeesue @vivastory Every time Monica Lewinski's name comes up! 5y
jillrhudy Someone should write “So You've Been Publicly Shamed and Evicted.“ Bound to be happening to people in the current climate, no? 5y
