A heartbreaking yet hopeful account of the Syrian War as told by a man who both drove ambulances trying to save people and who established animal sanctuaries to help abandoned animals. There are some graphic scenes of violent death, both human and animal (that poor dog 😭), but it‘s important that we don‘t forget what the Syrian people are living through. This is a story that needs to be told and heard.

Book 7 - this can easily be read as a standalone. I didn't guess the mystery and I appreciated both that the murder wasn't gruesome and the small village secrets weren't super seedy. However, the amount of repetition was unbearable. It felt like Weaver had a minimum page goal and not enough plot to reach it. If I had to hear about the rough start to the MCs marriage again, I was going to scream. #netgalley

I really liked how Fernando‘s story was interwoven throughout. Like Vanja‘s mother, the story floats around rather than staying in one place, and that worked for me.
