I know that Shute was an Englishman who spent parts of his life in Australia, but I wonder if he spent time in the Pacific Northwest. He writes so fondly of it in the start of this novel, and it is also featured in On the Beach.

An intriguing article on the discovery of Vanessa Bell's painting, The Party. On exhibition at Sotheby's, London during November.

Between the Acts | Virginia Woolf
Pickpick

Virginia Woolf wrote a freaking masterpiece within the last few hours of her life, but was too talented to realize it. I‘m sad that she died thinking this shiny brilliance was but a trivial effort. This is a must read if you like Woolf.

The Waste Land | T. S. Eliot

Pickpick

5 Stars • "The Waste Land" is a 434-line modernist poem by T. S. Eliot, published in 1922. It's a complex, fragmented, and allusive work that reflects the disillusionment and despair of the post-World War I generation. The poem is divided into five sections: "The Burial of the Dead," "A Game of Chess," "The Fire Sermon," "Death by Water," and "What the Thunder Said." ⬇️

suvata It explores themes of death, rebirth, and spiritual renewal, drawing on a wide range of cultural and literary references. 4mo

I've been meaning to revisit Virginia Woolf and the Bloomsbury set for a while now. Would anyone be interested in joining me for a monthly #buddyread from August?

As well as Woolf's books, I will be including biographies, non-fiction, retellings of her work, etc. There's certainly a lot to explore.

Let me know if you'd like to join me and I'll start a taglist.

AllDebooks I'm not 💯 on #WoolfsWords yet. Need to have a think about that, if thrre is interest. Maybe something Bloomsbury related, which would, of course, open up a huge range of books to explore. 🤔📚📚📚📚📚 5mo
Librarybelle Oh! I‘m interested!! I‘ve only read Mrs. Dalloway and have wanted to explore more. 5mo

IndoorDame I‘m not up for talking on another monthly buddy read, but I have been looking back at Woolf on my own some this year and have more titles of hers I plan to revisit , so if you decide to go ahead I‘ll definitely keep an eye on what you‘re reading and maybe join in occasionally 5mo
PurpleyPumpkin This sounds great!🙌🏽 5mo
TheKidUpstairs Could you add me to the tag list? I've only read one Woolf, but I've been meaning to read more as I loved her writing! 5mo
