Death in the Cards | Mia P Manansala

Danika has a lot on her plate between doing tarot readings & working for her mother‘s detective agency. She finally gets to use her skills when a classmate disappears, & she gets to lead her 1st case.

Such fun! A strong narrative voice for Danika, pacing was mostly good (if a bit slow in the middle), & I loved all the characters. The final reveal didn‘t feel as set up as I wanted, but would definitely read a whole series of Danika! 🌕🌕🌕🌕🌑

After Yeva kills her 1st dragon, she is sent to the capital of the Empire to train as a guildknight. Eventually, the Emperor commands her to a nearby country w/ rumors of dragons. But the rumors, & the country itself, are not what they seem.

Yang‘s world building always captivates me. & the queer normative cultures are amazing. This is a lovely, quick tale of finding where one belongs, discovering what duty really means, & finding love.🌕🌕🌕🌕🌗

PuddleJumper Ooo that sounds great! 3d
Kenyazero This sounds like a good one! 🤩 3d

Intent on finding the group responsible for the creation of the wraiths, thread cutter Io partners w/ an unlikely ally to hunt down this conspiracy & stop them from killing any more.

I liked this one a bit better. Better pacing, fascinating & even more expansive world building, & less focus on the destined romance. But I really wish we could have seen more into the relationship of the 3 sisters, & the ending really disappointed me. 🌕🌕🌕🌗🌑

Kenyazero Sounds like a step up from the book before! 3d

This volume took things in an incredibly unexpected direction and I can‘t wait to see where they go with it! Also, I love the casual silly end comic where two side characters meet up and become allies. I‘m pretty sure that‘s going to be important later. #Manga #Comics #LGBTQIA

Stasia has spent her whole life warning the people around her that she‘s an alien & that an invasion is coming. & then the first signal is received. Everyone will have to believe her now.

So interesting! Grant does such an amazing job making me love characters, even the advance spy of a race coming to destroy humanity. There were a couple pacing issues, but the horror was so well done, & the ending took me completely by surprise!🌕🌕🌕🌕🌑

Three Canandian college friends take a trip to New York City. Their adventures are expressive and so much that happens in this book feels urgent like it burns too hot too fast. I love the character and page designs, especially their trip to the museum. The ending felt like falling flat on my face.

Oh wow, strong pick for me. I liked this even more than the first book - The Space Between Worlds. Dystopian rebels fighting to keep their way of life and some people travelling the multiverse coming to interfere!

I love this type of science fiction. I stayed up late reading last night past midnight to finish this one. Definitely recommend!

Counts towards #lgbtqia2025 as well!

Kenyazero Sounds like an excellent follow-up book! I love when that happens ♥️ 6d
Kitta @Kenyazero yes I was pleasantly surprised! I thought it would be okay but it blew me away. 6d

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Beautiful debut Canadian novel. Nominated for many awards.

Translated from French and set mainly in Cairo and Montreal, this is an LGBTQ and family saga, told from the point of view of a narrator who‘s relationship to the main character is unknown (you find out about half through but I‘m not spoiling it!).

I loved the translation and had to look up a few English words I didn‘t know and this is my first language! 🙈 😂

Kitta @BarbaraBB it‘s a strange way to tell a story but I thought it was unique and interesting! I hope you enjoy it! 6d
Kitta @Kenyazero yes! I‘ve never read anything told that way before. I was trying to figure out who was talking about the main character and I was so wrong with my guess! (edited) 6d
Kenyazero @Kitta I love that you got to be surprised on the reveal! 6d

I‘m always delighted to find books that combine the winter holidays I celebrate! Watching Sheldon and Theo navigate each other‘s very different quirks was adorable and hilarious. It helps that I also happen to enjoy the fake dating trope. #LGBTQIA #Holidays

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

jaye‘s second poetry collection delivers some really good stuff but a few of them missed the mark for me. Maybe it‘s cause I‘m reading on the subway and it‘s hard to take it all in while reading on a phone. 🤷🏻‍♀️

I do think it‘s important to read more queer, indigenous voices and jaye‘s description of their relationship with their body as a 2 spirit indigiqueer person is really moving.

Kenyazero Good find! I‘ll have to pick this one up. 3w
Kitta @Kenyazero it was available on Libby through my local library! 3w
Kenyazero @Kitta looks like my library doesn‘t have it physically or digitally, but I just placed a hold on another book by this author and an indigiqueer anthology their work appears in called Love After The End: An Anthology of Two-spirit and Indigiqueer Speculative Fiction 3w
Kitta @Kenyazero I haven‘t read that one! But it sounds good. 3w
