I recently discovered Gina‘s books and website—I was enjoying so much that I bought 3 of the books! I love the fact that they are healthy and contain nutritional info. This panna cotta was supposed to use raspberry but we wanted to try passion fruit. Delicious!

Paging through old cookbooks always makes me laugh - foods and dishes that have fallen out of style, name changes and language usage changes (there‘s a lot of "Oriental" sesame oil in these recipes.)
This page amused me because we have shelves in the basement for extra giant cans of tomatoes, ramen noodles, and the Costco impulse buys, which we refer to as "THE LARDER"
For an ‘80s cookbook, this has some solid recipes and good advice.

Tamra I love doing the same! The pictorial and even photo representations of people in the much older ones are a cultural blast into the past. It‘s cringey as in “I can‘t look away.” 🫣 6mo
AlaMich I wonder if larder vs pantry is a regional thing? 🧐 6mo
PatriciaU When I was a child, that space in the basement was known as the “root cellar!” 6mo

Aimeesue @Tamra it‘s like a time capsule! 6mo
Aimeesue @AlaMich Maybe! Or class difference? I grew up in Massachusetts, and it was always called a pantry. (edited) 6mo
Aimeesue @PatriciaU Ha! The house I grew up in, the cellar always used to flood! A lot different from the finished basement we have now. (edited) 6mo

Got this book at Bob‘s Red Mill in Milwaukie, OR, just south of Portland, OR on vacation. So cool to see the headquarters in person! They have all kinds of Bob‘s Red Mill products at my grocery store in the natural food section. There are 31 recipes I want to try making in here. No pictures of recipes, though. I want to see how it‘s supposed to turn out!

#HyggeHourReadathon

Home today due to a snow day- the falling flakes outside my window are lulling me to sleep. Trying to catch up on posts. For this past Sunday‘s #HyggeHour, I did not read but used the tagged cookbook to make a pot of Jane Brody‘s chili, which warmed up the kitchen. Add chicken wings & corn muffins & we enjoyed our usual Super Bowl Sunday. The hygge was in the cooking with love.

#Mtcookbook 🧗‍♀️ Another new one this week!

Gumbo on the menu tonight. I love this series for its simplicity and overall tastiness.

Tamra This was a hit and will make it again. Added Old Bay Seasoning and hot sauce to serve. 😚 11mo

janeycanuck Yum! Sounds so tasty! 11mo
Tamra @janeycanuck it was very good! 11mo
Tamra @tpixie give it a try! 11mo
Tamra @mabell yes, I made a note to add it again. 11mo
tpixie @Tamra I showed the recipe to my husband.. He thinks we should give it a try! Do you know how much Old Bay you put in? 😄 (edited) 11mo
Tamra @tpixie my daughter doesn‘t like very spicy food, so I only put in a teaspoon. But the rest of us added hot sauce to our bowls. So I would say it depends on how spicy you want it. 😊 I also made other closely related substitutions based on what we had, including a half can of fire roasted tomatoes. 11mo
tpixie @Tamra ok thanks! Fired roasted tomatoes- my mom loved those! Thanks for the memory!! 11mo
Tamra @tpixie enjoy! 11mo
tpixie @Tamra 😋 11mo
intothehallofbooks This sounds wonderful! I‘ve never made gumbo before. Also I‘ve seen the Skinnytaste cookbooks around, but I‘ve never peeked into them. I should, though! 10mo
Tamra @intothehallofbooks I really like them! Maybe check a couple out from the library to see if they work for you. 😄 10mo
TheBookHippie I love gumbo! 10mo

I love cranberry season!

kspenmoll Yum! How do you like his cookbook? Is it user friendly? 13mo
Tamra @kspenmoll I always like his books! I appreciate he includes a variety of flavor profiles of cuisines so it‘s not boring. The ingredients aren‘t hard to find either and the recipes are simple as promised. I recommend checking it out from your library to see if you want a copy. (edited) 13mo

Not the tagged book. The audiobook, Breathing, is a short listen, less than two hours, and it‘s packed with vital information about the healing qualities of our breath. Dr. Weil explains the Eastern tradition of pranayama and how practicing breathwork can influence our nervous system. Dr. Weil takes listeners through several breathing exercises he practices in his own life.

4.5/5⭐ This cookbook has tons of recipes, all of which seem simple and much healthier than their restaurant counterparts without sacrificing flavor. I love everything in this book from the variety of recipes to the layout and pictures to the tidbits scattered throughout for recipe variations, substitution options, and generally making cooking easier. There's something in here for everyone.
