I need a LOVE option for this little slice of perfection!!! What a voice Reynolds writes in! It was narrated PERFECTLY and I was cheering for Ghost and wanted to smack him upside the head at the same time!! A #DiverseMiddleGrade novel about a boy living with his mom after his dad gets put in jail for trying to shoot them. A sad beginning with a few pretty bad choices in the middle makes for an excellent story of perseverance and second chances.

My best friend loves this series. So, I chose it as part of my #greatamericanreads list. I am not very fundamentalist as a Catholic and I knew exactly what this series was when starting. I went with an open mind. However, I feel the writing is really poor and it is turning me off. I am going to give this another 100 pages but I might have to bail. Anyone else feel the writing was poor for this series?

Read this for Banned Books Week and because of Great American Read. Maybe this is a case of a book that needs younger eyes rather than older ones. Appears people either love it or hate it. Quite frankly I found it a slog. Finally gave up, read cliffsnotes, skimmed and read the final couple of chapters. Brackets 4-11 of my library branch's #GreatAmericanReads tournament 😁👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻! Each branch (but not our County Correctional Facility branch) has been having very different results, all starting with the same titles in the same places. Very interesting to watch. We have a couple hundred total votes so far. Looking forward to it building up more momentum.
