I read this as part of the FairyLoot readalong and I'm having a hard time rating it. Altough it was a page-turner I found the world building lacking and I wasn't impressed with the magic system. Also, there were some things that just didn't make sense to me. That being said, I still really enjoyed the book and want to see what happens next. I just think the story had a lot more potential - good thing it's a series. 😉

I absolutely adore The Crown's Game. If you like magic, Russia, royalty, a lovely romance subplot, and detailed historical references (this book is very well researched trust me) - I highly recommend it!

And its sequel is AMAZING TOO!!!

Which pretty much sums up my feelings on the book. Nice, easy writing and an intriguing idea. But the plot felt... I don't know.. a bit uninspired? And don't get me started on the magic aspect. I'm giving the sequel a chance because I liked the characters (and I own it).

I'd never read a book about Imperial Russia before, but this had me hooked! If you love historical fantasy and stories with magic, then I highly recommend The Crown's Game.
