An interesting memoir, and I loved all the case studies. I like straight non-fiction more than memoirs, so I probably would have enjoyed this more if it was medical non-fiction without the memoirist bits. I actually felt this book was trying to be too many things at once. But I still enjoyed the read, ans my criticism is more due to my personal taste than the book itself, which I definitely recommend!

TheAromaofBooks Woohoo!!! 3y
BarbaraTheBibliophage I had similar feelings about this one. Kinda all over the place, but she is inspiring for her achievements. 3y
Cinfhen Me too!! I liked it but not sure I “LIKED” it. Good choice 👍🏽 3y

alisiakae @BarbaraTheBibliophage @Cinfhen Did either of you figure out the Philly hospitals that she gave pseudonyms for? We‘re pretty sure Andrew Johnson is Washington Jefferson Hospital. Aaron actually did a rotation there at the end of med school! (edited) 3y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @4thhouseontheleft I definitely think one was Jefferson. I googled and found a connection to her at the VA hospital in NE Philly. 3y

I'm super behind on reviews/book challenge posts and I'm never going to catch up, so I'm only posting something that can count for #booked2021, which I miiiiiiiiight be able to pull off.

This is a historical thriller and it's heavy on the historical, almost to the point of slowness, but I loved all the details of post-Civil War domestic life.

Totally hilarious and totally infuriating. It reminded me of my favourite TV show of the 90's Cardiac Arrest which was similarly blackly funny about the experiences of junior doctors in an NHS hospital while pointing out how they are appallingly exploited. There are laws recognising pilots and lorry drivers are dangerous if they're overworked but nothing for doctors. And then there's the administrative interference... #Booked2021 #COVIDHEROES

BarbaraTheBibliophage I definitely want to read this. And now I‘ll look for that show also. 🩺 3y

#AwesomeAugust - Book 3 finished

I didn‘t love the narrators voice when she was narrating Poirot. Probably because I‘m use to Hugh Fraser.

Overall, this was a really good mystery. I definitely didn‘t guess the killer. I never do.

Technically set in Iraq if I were still doing #ReadingAsia2021

I don‘t think I‘ll be able to stop myself from continuing reading a Christie a month. I‘ll just be way ahead of #AgathaChristieClubR2

Laughterhp Actually there is a nurse MC. So I‘ll use this for #CovidHeroes #Booked2021 @Cinfhen @4thhouseontheleft @BarbaraTheBibliophage 3y

Dr. Paul Farmer strong believes that healthcare should not be only be for those who can afford to pay and has spent his career tirelessly working to help those who most need it from Haiti, to Peru, to Russia, and beyond. This was a gripping memoir that shows Farmer as both a hardworking visionary and also as a man with flaws.
