#StorySettings Day 26: From Fats‘ review: “Katie and the Mona Lisa tells the grand adventures that Katie and Mona Lisa had in the #museum, as they try to find something that would make Mona Lisa smile. This book includes reproductions of five art pieces of the Italian Renaissance including St. George and the Dragon by Raphael and The Lion of St. Mark by Vittore Carpaccio.”

The Botticelli Secret | Marina Fiorato

Pickpick

Marina Fiorato really kills it with her historical fiction. I think this is the fourth one I have read by her and it‘s awesome.

This one had a more Da Vinci code feel to it then her others. While mostly believable, there were moments where it felt a bit far fetched.

The narrator was an amazing character. Her tone and viewpoints were quite funny and refreshing. I truly enjoyed her voice.

#TBRtemptation post 5! In honor of the famed artist's 500th birthday, Mark Manship, is attempting to stage the most exhaustive Botticelli exhibit in history at NYC's Met. He even reaches out to Isobel Cattaneo, the only direct descendant of the man's chief model. But in Italy, Borghini, a crazed nationalist, is destroying priceless art, staging a grotesque exhibit using human body parts, and harassing Isobel! #blameLitsy #blameMrBook 😎

Simonetta, the main character, is thought to be Botticelli's muse for The Birth of Venus. A little too much romance for me which I knew going into it, but Botticelli's Birth of Venus is one of my favorite pieces of art. Lots of similarities between this and The Girl with the Pearl Earring. Don't forget the author's notes if you pick this up. Very interesting stuff on the Medicis and Italian history. Three stars out of five.

rather_be_reading i studied this in art history in college. one of my favs 6y

Albrecht Drer: A Biography | Jane Campbell Hutchison

If you were a painter in the 17th century, what would have been the best way to ensure your face is remembered? If you're Vermeer, Rembrandt, or Dürer (especially Dürer!), you paint yourself into every work someone asks you do! Check it out at the link below or over at bookwormhistory.com! Much information was taken from this Dürer bio as well as "Vermeer" by Karl Schütz.
