I‘m currently reading “Crime and Punishment” on Libby and listening to “Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee” on audible. “Bury My Heart” gives lots of references to what else was happening in the world at the time and it mentions that the Russian novel “Crime and Punishment” was first published in 1866. This is an interesting coincidence for me as I consider world history during American Indian Heritage Month.

#Juneteenth happens to be my #litsyversary
Four years ago I heard of Litsy and immediately joined. My first Litsy post tagged Having Our Say, which I had read with a book club. The Delany sisters are full of wisdom and encouragement. Their father was born into slavery, their mother was born free. They had much to share and I am thankful they were willing to do so.

Sir Arthur Conan Doyle was born on this day in 1859 in Edinburgh, Scotland. I have not yet read all of the Holmes books. I‘m glad to still have some to look forward to. Do you have a favorite?

Father Brown Stories | G. K. Chesterton
post image

I‘m reading a book in the Father Brown series by G.K. Chesterton on the recommendation of Tsh Oxenreider. She shared about these short stories on her podcast, The Good List, which I highly recommend. I‘ve read two stories in this collection so far and look forward to the rest. If you are having trouble concentrating, this might hit the spot. #BookishEncouragement #FridayReads

My son and I are reading “Shine!” by JJ and Chris Grabenstein. If you go to their site, you will find lots of fun things including JJ reading the first chapter.

The Twilight Saga | Stephenie Meyer
post image

This month marks my ten year anniversary of reading The Twilight Saga. The phenomenon of these books and movies gave me a way to interact with other readers in a way I never expect to again. I had an extraordinarily superb time discussing the characters and themes. I was sad when it was over, but more so, I was grateful it happened at all. #BookNerdBliss #BookishEncouragement

Cupcake12 I have the whole set too and the page ends are blood red..I love it more every time I re-read them. Who is your favourite character? 5y

Attachments: A Novel | Rainbow Rowell
post image

I started reading a book on Wednesday that sounded like a fun, easy read. By chapter 5, I determined it to be something I did not care for, and something I would not feel good about recommending to others. I started Attachments yesterday and like it so far. I used to finish a book I started, no matter what, but last year I changed that habit and do not regret it. What is your guideline for not finishing a book?

Fortifiedbybooks If I'm not interested in or begin to like a book within 50 pages, I bail. Sometimes, I'll put the book away to try again later, and sometimes I know it's the book and not me or one of my moods, and it goes in the discard pile. 5y
That-Bookish-Hiker I wasn‘t a fan of this book either and trying to read through it to the end was slow going but I read it to the end even though the story really didn‘t improve for me and I didn‘t care what happened to the characters . 5y

Enjoying this autumn devotional immensely, especially the notion to not mistake self-indulgence for self-care.

This is not in the system, so I tagged her other book, which I enjoyed too.

Persuasion | Jane Austen

Pickpick

I read this about seven years ago. Out of all the Austen novels, I remembered the least about this one. Though I cannot easily relate to this heroine, I was invested and rooting for her from the start. Austen again weaves human nature so well into the tale I‘m glad for the reread. #ArdentlyAustenBookClub

As I was thinking about staging a photo, I determined the photo on the cover was simply perfect.
