For #booktubeathon this year I read and watched Chocolat, and I had so many thoughts I made a video of them. Check out my opinions on the characters and themes here! https://youtu.be/lChYQXSIWcA

Just uploaded my wrap up for the BookTubeAThon to my YouTube and to IGTV. Don't know how I feel about IGTV yet... I don't like how there's no organised way to it... Anyway, I finished 4 books & almost finished a 5th for the readathon.

Just in time I finished my last #booktubeathon challenge, #3! I thought the two seconds of romance at the end was unnecessary, & the constant switching between past & present tense was distracting. Otherwise I loved everything about this book. 4.5⭐. I had seen the movie years ago & loved it, but now much of the movie seems like a watered-down failure in comparison to the book. There were several excellent aspects though. #projectTBR #projectnew

#booktubeathon challenge #7 ✔! 3/5 ⭐. It's squarely white feminism. Some great thought-provoking points we're still sadly struggling with over a century later. While Gilman's overall point to challenge society's views of women succeeded, I was disappointed by how one-dimensional the women were in being 100% focused on motherhood. This book is an important step in feminist literature, but it has major problematic parts. #projectTBR #projectSAMS

#booktubeathon challenge #4 ✔! 4/5 ⭐. Compelling writing compensated for weaker elements (almost insta-love, unsurprising secret reveal). Didn't want to put the book down. Pia's characterization having grown up in an isolated scientific environment (e.g. taking figures of speech literally) added realism & flavor. Descriptions of the environment made me feel like I was there.

Content Warning for animal experimentation.

A bit late but I'm starting my first paper back for #booktubeathon today. I finished my first audiobook this morning 😊 I was really hoping to do the 7 books but it's not looking likely. I had a friend visiting overnight so no reading then and I'm now going away for the weekend so it's unlikely I'll read then either. Oh well, I'll read what I can and complete some of the other tasks 😊 There's always next year 📚

#booktubeathon challenge #6 ✔! 1/5 ⭐. Disappointing surface-level nonsense. The writing was weak, the story told mostly by telling vs showing so that it seemed like nothing actually happened. I skimmed the last 2/3 of the book and was still able to follow everything. Kandide was an eyeroll-worthy spoiled, vain, unbelievably beautiful, and flawlessly talented character. I was hoping the whole thing (cont‘d in comments) #projectnew #projectTBR

hissingpotatoes about the Imperfects would be explored respectfully, which I think was the intent, but the execution was awful. The repulsion toward physically disabled characters had no reason other than the Fee valuing physical perfection, which made no sense in the context of what little worldbuilding existed. On that note, drawing a map is not the end of good worldbuilding, but it is in this book. The plot & character motivations were thin and full of holes. 6y
hissingpotatoes Townspeople worshipped and adored Kandide one second, but the second after they accidentally saw her broken wing they jeered, denounced her, and threw fruit at her. During a council vote, one character accidentally burned her Nay chip so her vote counted as Yea because she couldn't get a new chip to vote with. It was a very frustrating read. The best thing about this book were the handful of illustrations. 6y

#Booktubeathon is going on over on Instagram and today's challenge was to post a stack of books! Since @Owlcrate is sponsoring, I did all of my #Owlcrate books. I also did some of my favorite Alice in Wonderland books, favorite series, and few other favorites.📚📚

Gina That's a thing of beauty. 6y
