No14 & the penultimate of my #BirthdayHaul (so far😋)is this new book by The City Of Brass author. Set in the same world, it features a retired pirate captain, trying gracefully to live a life full of motherhood & piety, who‘s tempted back into a world full of the supernatural, much danger but even more fun, to ransom back the daughter of a former comrade. But there‘s always risk in wanting to become a legend.
Lucky No13 in my #BirthdayHaul is this high fantasy cozy about a retired barbarian Orc who packs up her sword to open a coffee shop. But will her past ruin her dreams of a fresh start pulling shots of expresso instead of pulling off heads? This sounds fabulous, like D&D with cappuccino & muffins.☕️
No12 of my #BirthdayHaul(a couple more I promise!)is the sequel to The Left-Handed Booksellers of London. Trouble is brewing in the city of Bath, of the mythical sort. But it‘s not from the Sulis Minerva, the entity that lives in the old hot spring, it‘s the discovery of a sorcerous map that leads left-handed bookseller Merlin into danger. A rescue is attempted by his sister, right-handed bookseller Vivian,that leads them all to a parallel world.
Bk11 from my #BirthdayHaul(I‘m almost done I promise!)is the latest in the Special Edition hardcovers that are being released. A collection of some of her short stories, this one features all her detectives, Poirot, Marple, Tommy & Tuppence & even Parker Pyne I think. I love the cover, it fits the theme perfectly.🌸🌼🌸🌼
No10 in my #BirthdayHaul (I really did well this year, I think they felt sorry for me but I‘ll take it!😊)is this edition with a beautiful cover. This sounds like a lovely read, full of just delight really. A professor who‘s not great with people travels north to study Fae culture, and finds friendship, love & magic.
In 9th position from my #BirthdayHaul is a lovely signed edition of Birman Wood. It‘s billed as a part psychological thriller/part satire, so it‘s a bit hard to pin down. Birman Wood is a guerrilla gardening group founded by Mira Bunting, their objective is bringing forgotten & neglected land back to life. When a landslide gives them an opportunity for a large scale project, they find themselves competing with an American billionaire for the land.
Up in 8th position from my #BirthdayHaul is the sequel to My Heart Is A Chainsaw. I loved every bloody, brutal minute of that so here‘s hoping this one is just as cynical, sarcastic & bloody as that! Jade has just been released from prison after her conviction is overturned and returns to Proofrock. But serial killer Dark Mill South escapes during a prison transfer & uses Indian Lake as his new hunting ground.🔪
