I decided to read this for #aussieapril. Was excited to try Winch‘s debut novel which is over 10 years old. Sadly it didn‘t do it for me. Over writing, excessive use of metaphors, and a middle of the book that needed some severe editing. However despite all of this you can see that she has the ability to write, so I‘ll be happy to read her latest novels The Yield, which I‘m sure is very good.

I have attempted three times to read this novel set in Sydney at a time of huge change - the erection of the Sydney Opera House and Australia‘s early involvement In the Vietnam War. I havedecided to abandon it. I just cannot engage with the slow and circuitousnarrative. There is no real feeling of anticipation or fear or change. The most prominent emotion is confusion, followed by ennui. I need to move on. #aussieapril #aww2019

#BookMail Pt7 This is another Aussie author & based story, I ordered a few for #AussieApril but since the backup at Booktopia it‘ll have to be #AussieMay instead! This is set in the Tasmanian wilderness, in a small town on the edge of the forest, Jessica‘s partner disappears. A stranger in the community, she‘s suspicious of a circle of women who‘ve also lost their partners but with strange theories of why. Who was Matthew? And what has he become?

Another classy, pacy police procedural from Dervla McTiernan. Not quite as twisty as her first novel, but still a great example of the genre and we are all just a little bit in love with DS Cormack Reilly #aussieapril #AWW2019
