Short stories are usually not my thing. But this was pretty good!

Sadly none of the five facilities he ended up serving his 9 year sentence in had any sort of rehabilitation programs. He was left on his own to maintain his sanity while also becoming an adult. Fortunately he had books that helped along the way though they were only part of his journey. After his release he attended Yale and becomes the founder of the FreedomReads.org program. This was very well written and enlightening. I highly recommend.
"And the thing was, the victims race was the whole point of the story. White cop, white victim. It didn't matter if the gun, the fear, the robbery didn't resolve the oppression that was felt as much as that we were passing on to each other a warped way of dealing with anger that we didn't know we had."

I think I'm going to really enjoy Nnedi Okorafor's writing. She's new to me, but I'm already impressed with the opening pages to the tagged.
I flew through this book; it was a bittersweet conclusion to Sugar Lacey‘s story. I loved the characters were all connected from the start and the growth of Sugar was awesome to see. 100% a pick!
Mam , excuse me ?! There is no way your momma taught you to accept folk that much , just ain‘t no way.

1. As a kid: zoologist or nature documentarian, or paleontologist!
2. Let's not remind me and speak of such...

A heart wrenching but very well written story. I believe this is my third book by this author and won‘t be my last.
I picked this up at a little free library because the cover was so cool. But I‘m thinking of bailing. It‘s dated (mid nineties) and so far none of the characters are likable. Anyone who‘s read it want to change my mind?
