July I was challenging myself to read #30Comics30Days and managed to hit 20 again. Which really isn't that bad :)

Millar sets the comic up really well, using an interesting premise. The pacing has that Marvel/DC issue where it jumps around everywhere and spends no time developing anything. The story beats are hit fast and hard, with no time given to savor it. Maybe that's a style that people like, but it's not my thing. The characters are boring, but I'm beginning to wonder if Superman & Wonder Woman are just boring characters by their nature

Chester Brown re-created several well known Biblical stories, focusing on how god views obedience and themes of prostitution in the Bible. I personally loved the comics. It seemed like a clever and unique view of how these stories are usually viewed.

I appreciated that Brown takes the time to explain why he made the stories the way he did and where is conclusions came from. I just wish he hadn't made so many notes. :p

Delilah Dirk is a kick-ass protagonist who I am absolutely in love with and I NEED IN MY LIFE RIGHT NOW WHY DO I NOT HAVE MONEY FOR THIS SERIES ARGH!

Its the characters. And the humour. and those goddamn facial expressions! Those little moments and grand fights. Its story beats hit me right in the heart. I might be over-hyping it right now, but I'm so infatuated with this world.

Recommended. Read it. Now. Oh my god. So in love!

The Baker Street Four was an unexpected find. David Etien has done a fantastic job bringing this world to life with fun character designs and beautiful backgrounds. J. B. Djian amd Olivier Legrand have created a fun, adventure title based in the world of Sherlock Holmes, but from the perspective of a couple street urchins. While I never found the stakes to be realistically dangerous, I always found the journey a fun romp. #30comics30days

Perhaps a tad short on plot, Stargazing Dog is full of feeling. I'm going to warn you right now, if animals being in bad situations tends to make you teary, prepare for the waterworks!

Shortcomings is a great title if you enjoy heavily character-driven narratives with unlikable protagonists. As the title suggest, everyone in this book has their shortcomings, and no one comes out of it looking dandy. But I also found I understood why the characters did what they did, making them feel authentic and relatable even while they were being unbearable.

Giant Days was so much fun to read, with memorable characters and great humor. John Allison writes some fantastic young protagonists who are brought to life with Lissa Traiman's expressive illustrations. The colours by Whitney Cogar are beautiful and compliment Traiman's art perfectly. Jim Campbell did such a fantastic job with the lettering that I didn't even notice it! The whole book came alive in my head and I loved every page.

As a memoir and a comic, Una's style is very unique and artistic. While visually a bit off-putting, it fits well with the story she tells, because its a subject matter that can be difficult to read.

As Una tells her story of sexual abuse, she ties it into the broader picture of society. Using statistic, research, and personal experience, she brings voice to the destructive behavior the world takes towards half its population.
