This was a beautiful, lyrically written, dark book about the violence that soaks the soil of the American south. It also showed a neglectful mom from two perspectives- her own inner world & also her son's perspective, which I found intriguing (if it didn't quite hang together cohesively for me). Didn't love Rutina Wesley's reading in the audiobook though, which surprised me since I love her as an actor.

alisahar This book also works for the #2017ReadHarder challenge-- a book where all POV characters are people of color. 7y

For my #2017readharder challenge I reread to say nothing of the dog. For my money one of the best #timetravel stories and it's got a screwball romance. Love love love. This book takes me to a happy place.

First book finished for 2017 and the Read Harder challenge. Not bad. I'll probably pick it up again if I need a comic/graphic novel to break a reading slump. I don't want to say too much and risk spoilers, so I'll just say not my favorite, but willing to read more. (And I totally relate to this panel) #2017readharder #task18

LectricSheep If it helps, I think the series really picked up for me in volumes 3 & 4. 8y
Zelma I had similar feelings about it. Decent but not my favorite. Some stereotypes and lack of complexity as well as an odd flow to the plot. 8y
DGRachel @LectricSheep That does help, thanks! 8y
DGRachel @Zelma glad to know I'm not alone. 😉 8y

For #readjanuary, here is #thismonthsTBR. I might actually stick with it because of #somanyreadingchallenges !

EvieBee That was such a great book! Hope you love it! 8y
saresmoore @EvieBee84 I've heard such wonderful things! My whole family loves comics and graphic novels, but all the pictures tend to short-circuit my brain. But when I saw the all-ages comic category on the #2017ReadHarder challenge, I knew this would be my pick! 8y
Redy2trvl I finished Penumbra this morning. Such an awesome way to start 2017! 8y

Reviewsbylola I hope to read Victoria. 8y
saresmoore @Reviewsbylola I LOVE how you phrased that. So. Many. Books! I picked it for V in #LitsyAtoZ and for "takes place over 150 years ago" in the #LitsyReadingChallenge. 8y

Ahh, the end of the reading year. #readingresolutions for next year = more nonfiction and at least 25% of books read will be by people of color. Also doing the #2017readharder challenge! #readingstats

Reviewsbylola Great month! 8y
suomi That was my favorite book this year! 8y

This one wins the prize for yummiest book I devoured the fastest. My book club chose this for January and it's a book-lover's dream! A little romance, a to-die-for Scottish Highlands setting, and lots of love for books! This would be a fun choice for the #2017readharder "books about books" category! #2016favorites
