I had the pleasure of listening to the audio version of When a Scot Ties the Knot and what a treat it was. The narrator did a superb job giving each character a different voice and accent. The story itself was charming and sweet and funny. It was the perfect romantic book to end the year.

Read nearly all of this on my flight back home the other day, and finished up this morning. Definitely worth the reader. It's scientific and informative, yet the writing is clever and witty, a great combination to make this a good page turner.

The Secret History by Donna Tartt.

Last year, I had read The Goldfinch based on a recommendation, and absolutely loved it. So this year, in our only book club read of the year, a friend and I decided to read The Secret History, and it did not disappoint.

This book will keep you talking and thinking long after you finish it. Definitely a book worth checking out.

My next favorite read of the year: Sleeping Giants by Sylvain Neuvel. This was a new book in 2016, and only wish it got more attention.

i listened to the audiobook version, and felt it was well done. I thoroughly enjoyed Sleeping Giants, and hope that the next one is just as good.

If you're looking for a new sci fi story to get hooked on, definitely check this one out.

With so many notable books out this year, many great reads inevitably fell through the cracks. This is one of those books, in my opinion. This story of 2 pairs of brothers--one black, the other white-and how their lives tragically intersect is outstanding. The Civil Rights movement and other pivotal historic events provide the backdrop for this book. An emotional read for sure but an important one and one that I strongly recommend. #2016reads

This novel is based on the true story of Anita Hemmings, the first African American woman to graduate from Vasser College in 1897. Anita was light-skinned and able to pass as a white woman because at the time, Vasser did not admit women of color. Having to hide her true identity must have been devastating, not to mention her fear of being found out by her school and fellow students. An interesting story about a courageous woman. #2016reads
