Little Pea
Little Pea | Amy Krouse Rosenthal
17 posts | 13 read | 5 to read
If Little Pea doesn't eat all of his sweets, there will be no vegetables for dessert! What's a young pea to do? Children who have trouble swallowing their veggies will love the way this pea-size picture book serves up a playful story they can relate to.

“Spinach!“ squealed the pea. My favorite!“

I would use this as a fun alternative in the classroom to talk to students about our similarities and differences in what we like. Emphasizing the fact that people can enjoy different things and that is OKAY. I would build on students knowledge by asking them to relate to the story with something they like to eat and something they might not want to eat. Sharing our ideas and differences is how we learn best!

Pickpick

Little Pea by Amy Krouse (2005) is a fictional picture book that is humorous to readers. It has a theme of children eating their veggies but in this case, pea hates eating candy. The illustrations are fun, simplistic, and engaging for the readers with pops of green to represent the peas. The ending shows pea enjoying a plate of spinach for dessert and will be sure to make students think about their attitude towards things they like/dislike.

Rosenthal's magic shows up once again in Little Pea. Little Pea (found via Storied Life of A.J. Fikry), and adjacent in the catalog, Little Pea's Grand Adventure, are not related by anything but similar title. Both are sweet and short.

Watched the grandbaby for a few hours last Friday. Downloaded these 3 ebooks. She especially liked The Bad Seed. I liked the concept and can‘t wait to read others in the series, like The Good Egg. Little Pea was my favorite. Who doesn‘t love dessert first? ❤️ Amy Krouse Rosenthal. Frederick was a bit too long for her 15 month old attention span after the other two. We‘ll have to try it again sometime.

Illustrations for all were great.

Butterfinger So many nights I had to read The Good Egg. Loved it. Not complaining. 4y
ravenlee Do you know Salina Yoon‘s books? They‘re great for that age. 4y
megnews @ravenlee I haven‘t. Thanks for letting me know. Will have to check it out. 4y

"If I lived that life, I'd hate it" my 5 year old. He had never met candy he didn't like or green veggies he did.

These are my daughter's absolute favorite bedtime books. She's six now, but I think they've been favorites for 4 years, which is to say for most of her life.

She loves the humor- how the parents have the opposite reaction of what you would expect.

Rest In Peace, dear author. Thank you for the countless bedtime giggles and snuggles with your stories.

ForestAvenuePress My kiddos and I love all these books so much, and I've been a fan of Amy's since Encyclopedia of an Ordinary Life. Such sad news. 8y
BookInMyHands @ForestAvenuePress I've only just heard of that book and it's not in my library system. I'll have to fix that. 8y

I love books by Amy Krouse Rosenthal. She was an amazing children's author. I've used so many of her books with my kinders. If you have little ones check her out. Duck! Rabbit!, Spoon and Little Pea are my favorites. She will be missed. #cancersucks

DebinHawaii So sad. She was an incredible woman. 💜 8y

My four year old brought this home from preschool and I've never seen him laugh so hard at a book! It's about a pea who has to eat candy for dinner so he can have his spinach dessert. My kiddo is not a great eater so maybe this will make him want veggies 😂 Either way this is a win!

Day 18 of #25booksofchristmas

Cute book! Zo was so confused on having candy for dinner and blown away when the little pea got spinach for dessert! 😂

Ender just wanted to eat the book.
