This completes my third reading (listen) of the Harper Connelly series. I‘m kind of surprised by the 3 stars in my original review because I‘m around a 4 now. I didn‘t finish Harris‘ Sookie series as I grew bored with it and have always wished this series was longer. This time I think maybe 4 books were perfect. No chance of the series becoming boring. Of course, after reading some comments on other reviews I found out the characters show up in ⬇️

Reggie Sooooo this horror bookclub in Alb I‘m going to is reading Interview with a Vampire this month. I read it in 9th grade and thought it was so boring. Bookzombie @Reggie I have stayed warm, but man did we have a lot of snow and it‘s still here. ❄️ David ordered a snow blower, lol. I‘m sure I read Interview at about the same time, probably due to the movie. I remember liking it because I read the second book. I bet it will be different as an adult. Hopefully in a good way. Although, I tried to start The Witching Hour by Rice a couple of years ago and it‘s still on my shelf. 😕 1mo

You could have knocked me over with a feather when it was revealed who the killer was. This is the fourth and final book in the Harper Connelly series. I enjoyed this series more than her Sookie Stackhouse series. There just were too many Sookie books and they were mediocre at best. I know that‘s an #unpopularopinion but it‘s mine and I‘m stickin‘ with it. (cont)⬇️

CatLass007 I like how this series answered all the pertinent questions but recognized that not everything can be wrapped up in a happily ever after bow. 2y

ravenlee The Sookie books started fairly well but very quickly petered out. I reread the series a couple years ago to finish it, but it was a real slog. 2y

CatLass007 @ravenlee I listened to the entire series. I‘m still not sure why. I guess it‘s because I‘ve always been a completist. It‘s not until the last few years that I learned to say that I wasn‘t enjoying myself and I could stop reading something. Then I could move on to the next book in my TBR. 2y

Blaire Oh I‘ll check out this series. I read all the sookie ones even though the last few were terrible but I really liked the first several. They were my maternity leave reads years ago. 2y

#bookspin - #2 on my list finally crossed off!

This book has been on my TBR for years. It‘s the 4th and last book in the series. Book 3 took a turn i did not care for, but I wanted to finish the series. It felt rushed and chaotic. Plus the the thing that happened in book 3 was amplified. It‘s a shame because the main story line is good.

So. Good. Figured out part but not all. I‘m so sad that this series is over. I‘m listening to Sookie Stackhouse and am not super into it, and disliked Aurora Teagarden. Ahh sadness. #cozyinthesun

DebinHawaii @Avanders @BethM I hope you like them. I think like Harper, Lily Bard is a darker character with a past & while I don't hate Aurora & liked the first 7-8 Sookie books, I found Lily much less annoying & 'punchable' than those two MCs tended to be. 😆 6y

DebinHawaii @BethM I did and liked it, probably third best of her series books & I watched the television series too. It has some secondary characters from her other series besides Manfred that end up in Midnight, Texas along with new characters. It reminded me of the Sookie books before they started going downhill. I was a bit disappointed with this one. I felt that some of the heath between Harper and Tolliver had gotten lost somewhere between the last book and this one. I wasn't too sure about many of the plot choises either. Still an entertaining read.

I'm impressed with this series by Harris. It's much edgier than her others. Those have fun at their hearts. But this series has sadness, depth, & complexity in the story & characters that reminds me of some of Gillian Flynn's characters.
If you think you don't like Harris, but you do like supernatural twists, you should give this series a try. It reveals a completely different side of Harris. And I hope it's not the last we see of it.

Sweettartlaura @AllenStClair I agree 😕. Harper & Tolliver do show up in the Midnight, TX, series because of their connection to Manfred. But it would be nice to spend some time with them again. 8y

Fell asleep while listening to this last night... Now I gotta figure out what I actually remember 😳

Bookzombie You may already do this, but if I know I might go to sleep, I set the timer on the player to stop. That way I know the longest I might have to go back is that set amount of time. 8y

Fourth and final book in the Harper Connelly series. This one was a bit rushed in the end trying to tie up all of the lose ends. I read some reviews indicating they didn't like the characters, but I didn't feel that way. Overall, I enjoyed this odd little mystery series and would have read more.3🌟
