“Every letter had a drawing of Gloria on it. Officer Buckle thought the drawings showed a lot of imagination.”

I would use this book in the classroom to teach about rules in a way that students can relate to.

This book does a good job of illustrating how important it is to follow the rules, as well as the importance of teamwork in a fun way that children are able to grasp. Officer Buckle has trouble getting anyone to listen to his safety rules, until Gloria comes around and makes them fun for the kids to learn. Suddenly, everyone is being safe and Officer Buckle and Gloria are a great team.
Officer Buckle & Gloria by Peggy Rathman is about the value of working together and the importance of "sticking by your buddy". It had vibrant and dynamic illustrations that children may find silly!
I loved the picture of officer Buckle and his dog sitting on the bench.
I liked this book. It had humor and I would use it for even up to 3rd.
I would use this book to teach my kids about the power of friendship and the importance of safety
I feel as though Officer Buckle & Gloria is an amazing book to teach students about rules and safety in the classroom

This book would be great for teaching about safety in a fun way. It also shows children that it always smart to have a buddy.
It started with a puddle of banana pudding...SPLAT! SPLATTER! SPLOOSH!
My students would absolutely love this book and you could really use it within your classroom! You could talk about team work and how doing things with a partner can sometimes be more fun than doing it alone!
Officer Buckle and Gloria by Peggy Rathmann 1995 Caldecott
This book brough me much joy and excitement from the pages! However the moral behind the story was the spotlight for me! “Always stick with your buddy“!
I think this book highlights that people in authority can be humorous too!
Officer Buckle and Gloria by Peggy Rathmann, 1995. Caldecott Award Winning Book. This book is about a police officer who creates wacky safety tips for people to follow. The imagery is very colorful and creates a feeling of joy and laughter. The officer gives a silly speech on safety tips that makes the children laugh.
The book has descriptive words that made you feel like you're in the story. Plus the color pops out at you making the illustration pleasing to look at. There is also so much detail hidden within the pictures.
My favorite quote is, “Best safety tip is... ALWAYS STICK WITH YOUR BUDDY!“
The book emphasizes the importance of rules because it keeps people safe, and the importance of friendship.

I would use this book to start a conversation on how to stay safe in and out of the classroom. Also, this book can be used to start thinking about classroom rules for the year.
Review:
This book won a Caldecott medal in 1996. It is about a police officer who teaches students at schools about what to do to be safe. However, no one ever listens to him until he brings along Gloria, the police dog. Now, everyone listens and there has not been an accident since.
“Officer Buckle thought of his best safety tip yet… ALWAYS STICK WITH YOUR BUDDY!l
Officer Buckle and Gloria is an absolutely adorable book! It is a perfect book for school settings and even discussing safety in schools
I would probably use this book in the classroom to help with the rule making process. Good rules are few in number, easy to follow, and easy to remember. When you have a list of rules as long as Officer Buckles they become hard to remember even if you have a helpful K-9 to demonstrate the rules for you.
1996 Caldecott Medal winning book. Officer Buckle and Gloria is about and officer and his K-9 companion. Officer Buckle gives safety speeches and his speeches were not very engaging until Gloria came along and helped spice them up. Buckle had so many rules and he would just rattle them off one after another. But Gloria came along and help the audience engage in the content of the rules which help them remember the speech and Buckles tips.
Officer Buckle and Gloria is a great book for friendship and teamwork. Without Officer Buckle and Gloria working as a team, they were not giving the message across with their safty tips. It shows the effects on teamwork and friendships and how they effected their audience. This picture book was written and illustrated by Peggy Rathmann. It was awarded the Caldecott Award for its amazing illustrations. This is a great fiction children's....
Officer Buckle and Gloria! 🐕This MF, RA, Caldecott Medal book is a super fun story that teaches the importance of friendship. Our main character, Officer Buckle, is great at his job and knowledgeable too, but had a hard time getting students to listen to his safety tips! Gloria is new to Napville‘s police department and is great at obeying commands. Quickly the officer and the dog befriend each other but have a couple ups and downs along the way.
I would use this book in the beginning of my year to show the kids the importance of following rules.
This award winner follows a safety officer that is trying his hardest to get to the kids. through his best efforts, nothing works. that is until his new trusty sidekick, a dog named gloria comes along and shows the kids how safety is important.
This book, a Caldecott Honor book, is about a police officer and his dog Gloria and their journey presenting safety tips to schools.
I would use this book I my future classroom as a way to introduce police officers and police dogs as well as a fun read that the children would enjoy.
“At the bottom of the pile was a note written on a paper star”. This moment in the book can lead to a lesson plan where a teacher allows children to cut out paper stars and write safety tips on them.
This book teaches students plenty of safety tips as well as teamwork. This would be a great book to read to children of any age.
Award: Caldecott Medal
Review: Officer buckle loves giving safety assemblies, but he‘s incredibly boring. One day, police dog Gloria acts out the safety procedures behind him and all the children cheer, making Officer Buckle believe they are cheering for him. Full of numerous safety tips and hilarious cartoons, this is a great read aloud. You don‘t have to be a dog lover to fall in love with this book the characters have so much personality.
