I would have loved this novella more if I hadn‘t read it during a sleepless night. Now that I finished it I still feel numb and is does deserve all the feelings! It‘s a very carefully created love story, the words well chosen, the Tuscan scenery vividly described and wonderful dialogues between two people who should be together.
I am glad I read it, like @KarenUK thanks to the mention of it in Writers & Lovers.

#WeeklyForecast 34/20

As said The Eighth Life is in progress, as is Somebody I Used to Know. Next will be the tagged one, that got high praise in Lily King‘s great Writers & Lovers. Also I have a Dutch one lined up for #ReadingEurope2020 (Belgium). Looking forward to all of them!

Cinfhen Wonderful ❤️ 4y
Kalalalatja I‘m becoming more and more interested in The Eight Life - how are you liking it, so far? 4y
Cathythoughts Yes @Kalalalatja I‘m interested too. Looking forward to Barbara‘s review 4y
BarbaraBB @Kalalalatja @Cathythoughts It is your usual family saga, however against the background of Soviet history from the Revolution of 1918 until now. If you don‘t know much about Soviet history you can learn a lot. In the Netherlands we had that subject in high school and later at Uni I did as well, so for me it‘s not that new and it‘s mainly the family saga. That‘s enjoyable so far. It‘s an easy, meandering read. 4y

This lovely novella, is as a Time magazine review claimed, near perfect.
The writing is clear and precise and oh so gorgeous. It feels like every word has been selected with so much care, and so much is said with so little. As an English woman and an Italian man fall in love in Italy, I was seduced by the beautiful language.
I‘m so glad the the main character from King‘s ‘Writers and lovers‘ ,who loved this book, put it on my radar. Loved it!

KarenUK @Cinfhen @BarbaraBB @Flaneurette I think Shirley Hazzard may be an newly discovered gem for me. I hadn‘t heard of her, and now have lots of backlist to try.... (edited) 4y
CarolynM Shirley Hazzard is one of those writers I've heard about for a long time (she was an Australian expat) but never read. I'm stacking this one. I think I have a copy of the tagged book somewhere 4y

Up next..... this one for #popsummer20 for #dreamsummerdestination i.e. the Italian countryside....
This 1966 novella by multi-award-winning author Shirley Hazzard has been called a ‘near perfect masterpiece‘ so to say my hopes are high is a bit of an understatement! 😂
I was led to it by the main character in Lily King‘s ‘Writers & Lovers‘ naming it as a favorite of hers...
So 🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞

Cinfhen Hope it delivers 💕 4y
BarbaraBB I am so curious about this one too! Can‘t wait to see what you think! I am almost finished with this one 💕 4y
