Another hit from the #wpnf25 longlist that I would have missed! Wistrich has collected cases involving women who have been convicted of crimes, or victims—some cases both. This is a call to action for change. I thought this was great.

This book exploring how the British legal system fails women in sexual assault/abusive situations is infuriating. It‘s also engrossing and unputdownable. I tend to have rose colored glasses on about the UK, thinking they do things better than us, and this book rips those glasses off and stomps them to smithereens. Superb. #WPNF25
For the most part this book has me in a constant state of rage, but this part made me laugh:
"Anyone who has been involved in feminist and left-wing politics will know that uniting anarchist feminists with trade union socialists is no mean feat." ?
Yes, it would take something like the common enemy of undercover cops literally emBEDDED in their homes. ?

Another amazing book from the #wpnf25 longlist. The author has spent her legal career challenging the police, the govt and other legislative bodies, often in the cases of women who have been victims of male violence or abuse.
Wistrich writes in an engaging, accessible way, without too much legalese, despite the complexity of the cases she talks about. The book made me furious but also grateful that she (& others) are trying to upend the system.
Here's a full list of triggers for Sister in Law, just in case it helps anyone decide whether to read it or not. I don't really use Storygraph's explanations for the levels, though. Some of the things I have listed in minor isn't brief, but minor in comparison to what I've written in moderate.

This was very interesting, but it will make you angry at some of the ways victims and their families have been treated by the UK justice system. It's very up-to-date as well. For example, Wayne Couzens is mentioned. Next post will be triggers, as there are quite a few.
