The Last of the President's Men
The Last of the President's Men | Bob Woodward
6 posts | 7 read | 10 to read
Bob Woodward exposes one of the final pieces of the Richard Nixon puzzle in his new book The Last of the President’s Men. Woodward reveals the untold story of Alexander Butterfield, the Nixon aide who disclosed the secret White House taping system that changed history and led to Nixon’s resignation. In forty-six hours of interviews with Butterfield, supported by thousands of documents, many of them original and not in the presidential archives and libraries, Woodward has uncovered new dimensions of Nixon’s secrets, obsessions and deceptions. The Last of the President’s Men could not be more timely and relevant as voters question how much do we know about those who are now seeking the presidency in 2016—what really drives them, how do they really make decisions, who do they surround themselves with, and what are their true political and personal values?

Bailedbailed

I‘ve bailed on this. I picked up the audio CD at a library sale. The reader was so boring that I didn‘t pay attention at all. I might try and pick it up some other time

This is the best author's note I have ever seen! It's #BobWoodward writing about the specific contributions of his longtime assistant, Evelyn Duffy, to the book. And it is the very first thing in the book. 💜💜💜

This is the story of White House aide Alexander Butterfield, his decision to disclose (aka leak) the existence of the Nixon White House taping system, and its consequences. Again, it seems surprisingly relevant. #PresidentsDay #RichardNixon

Wish I lived out here, that looks like an amazing lineup of authors! (Not to worry, the Tucson Festival of Books is close enough and quite fun!) #bookfestival #dc #politicsandprose

Victoria_C I'm embarrassed to say I live within a metro ride to P&P but haven't been there! I have been to the National Book Festival. 8y
BarbaraTheBibliophage How is the Festival? I'm mildly contemplating going this year or next. 8y
saguarosally @Victoria_C I'm thinking go when there is an event. I did like the sale section.😄 8y

saguarosally @BarbaraTheBibliophage I haven't been to the National Book Festival. I'm actually about 90 minutes from the Tucson Festival of Books, so I have been there. It was great fun! 8y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @saguarosally Oh I love Tucson! I meant to ask @Victoria_C about the National Book Festival. 😎 8y
Victoria_C I haven't been to the Festival since they moved it indoors a number of years ago. It was really crowded though and I was with my kids, so.... This year, I attended the much smaller Annapolis Book Festival and enjoyed that a lot. 8y
Victoria_C Sorry I forgot to tag you two @saguarosally and @BarbaraTheBibliophage 8y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @Victoria_C I'll have to remember the Annapolis one! I was thinking National might be too crowded for me. Thanks! 8y
saguarosally @BarbaraTheBibliophage @Victoria_C Don't forget the Baltimore Book Festival. 8y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @saguarosally @Victoria_C I did actually look at that one. This year I wasn't impressed by the speakers. 😥 8y
saguarosally #nationalbookfestival envy time! 😜 8y
