Angel Time
Angel Time: A Novel | Anne Rice
8 posts | 33 read | 8 to read
It's the present day. Toby O'Dareaka Lucky the Foxis a contract killer of underground fame on assignment to kill once again. He's a soulless soul, a dead man walking. His nightmarish world of lone and lethal missions is disrupted when a mysterious stranger, a seraph, offers him a chance to save rather than destroy lives. O'Dare, who long ago dreamt of being a priest, seizes his chance. Now he is carried back through the ages to thirteenth-century England, to dark realms where accusations of ritual murder have been made against Jews, where children suddenly die or disappear. In this primitive setting, O'Dare begins his perilous quest for salvation, a journey of danger and flight, loyalty and betrayal, selflessness and love.

I was a major Anne Rice fan in my teen years and I remember being a little disappointed with the tagged book when it came out.

BookmarkTavern I‘ve never actually read any of Rice‘s work. Thank you for answering! 2y

Hellz no. Don‘t even bother borrowing this book from the library. It‘s like standing next the family blowhard at a long, depressing wake. Under six hours of audio, but I‘ll never get that mind space back. (Although I was #audiopuzzling so it‘s not a complete loss.) Either way, save yourself and avoid this book!

BibliOphelia Ha! Great review! 6y
BibliOphelia And what do you think HAPPENED to Anne Rice?? It‘s said that her writing g crashed and burned when she suddenly found religion, but that doesn‘t seem to explain it properly. Almost like some sort of mental illness or cognitive event... which is completely spurious conjecture, but 🤷‍♀️ 6y

Sometimes I buy an audiobook and promptly ignore it for three years. Then, in a moment of guilt, I decide to listen to my oldest unfinished audio. And that‘s how I ended up with this odd book. Still persisting but it‘s just strange.

BibliOphelia Ooooooohhhh, Anne Rice. 😂 She had a good thing going and then she went a bit too far (IMO). 6y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @BibliOphelia I think so too. I love her Witches of Mayfair. And of course the Vampire Chronicles. I even liked the Wolf Gift duology. But this book is just weird, and yet, I‘m still listening. 🤷🏼‍♀️ 6y
BibliOphelia I haven‘t read the Wolf Gift books, but josh the others were good fun. Still reading is a good sign, though! 6y

Disappointing. Plot wasn‘t super deep or engaging as I thought it would be. Really not much like Anne Rice‘s other stories or characters that I‘m a big fan of. Bummer. Got my little Beanie angel Halo in there though 😇

My spoils from today‘s library sale!! Actually got quite a lot of CDs versus books. These library book sales are the only time I let myself buy books now. Need to read all the ones I have and not buy so many!

I used to devour Anne Rice books. I loved the Mayfair Witches and her vampire novels. I read this too. I always find it interesting how she struggles with her own faith through the characters in her books. #time #NoteworthyNovember @Jess7
