Quick read. If you want to know the parts of Maria Von Trapp‘s life that were not portrayed in the Sound of Music movie/musical then this is a short good read for you. Her story is interesting and how certain things happened were I guess you would say, meant to happen. The songs by Roger‘s and Hammerstein were and are a treasure.
4⭐️ Really liked this book; it would have been higher if the scenes from the 1950s were just as the ones that were about Maria‘s past. The story was not at all like the movie and Maria‘s story was much more compelling than the musical would lead one to believe. #2025 #biographicalfiction #fiction #1920s #1930s #historicalfiction

Recently finished: Had a very productive week of completing books, as I completed 3 and almost a fourth. A lot of it had to do with the fact that they were book club reads and were also well done.
Currently reading: Read a good chunk of Maria this weekend and started to work on The Book of Negroes again. I plan to work on Where the Lost Wander and Billy Boyle this coming week.
Continued in the comments.
After a week of library book club books, which where all really good [reviews forthcoming], I can finally get working on some books that I want to read myself.
I have discovered the wonders of YouTube reading sprints, as those have really been helpful for me getting into reading this past week and reading for long periods of time. #weekendreads
Though August was another great month, immediately after finishing this ARC, I ordered three copies to give as Christmas presents because not only did I love it, but I knew my BFF, mom and SIL would also love it! I am looking forward to hearing what they think!

These are a few of my favorite things…🎶
🤩🙌🏻
I enjoyed this fictional/nonfictional book about the real Maria von Trapp of The Sound of Music fame.
I found it interesting to hear more about some of the things that the playwriters/screenwriters embellished/altered from her story in order to make them more palatable and engaging for the audience…a big one being the depiction of her husband‘s stern demeanor. There were also some surprising revelations about Maria‘s own motivations and 🔻
Though I wouldn‘t call THE SOUND OF MUSIC my favorite musical, my mom‘s, as well as my best friend‘s, passion for it has rubbed off over the years. And though it‘s weird to watch it now without having to get up to put in the second tape, this book brought fresh light and fun to the familiar story. I liked the dual timeline, the characters (both familiar & fresh), & of course, the story. I‘ll be buying this one as gifts for Christmas for sure!
Such a fabulous read!
