The Orange and other poems
The Orange and other poems | Wendy Cope
4 posts | 2 read | 1 to read
My heart has made its mind up And I'm afraid it's you. The Orange provides the perfect introduction to Wendy Cope, one of Britain's wittiest, best-selling and best-loved poets. In poems that can turn from laugh-out-loud funny to deeply moving, Wendy Cope offers reflections on love and life. From the joy of falling - and being - in love to ways to help you deal with a painful break-up or the memories of people loved and lost, this is a book you will want to savour and share with all your friends. 'Wendy Cope's readership, numerous and adoring, is the envy of most poets. Cope's real strength lies not in charm or insight (she has buckets of both) but in the pitch perfect exactitude of her writing.' Sunday Times

LOSS:
"The day he moved out was terrible -
That evening she went through hell.
His absence wasn't a problem
But the corkscrew had gone as well."

(I can't vouch for any of the cork removal techniques pictured. The Bike Pump Technique seems particularly iffy. Put down lots of plastic sheeting if you try it!)

Leftcoastzen 😂👏🍷Cheers , hope you and yours have a wonderful holiday season! 12mo
Ruthiella What about asking the neighbors to borrow theirs? 🤔😂 12mo
julesG The bike pump one actually works - provided your bike pump has a long syringe like part that can go through the cork. 12mo
Bookwomble @julesG I would definitely be sponging wine off the ceiling! 😄 12mo
julesG Better try it outdoors then. 😁 12mo

Pickpick

A diddy book of 32 pages of poetry, many of which are just a few lines long, but pithy, warm, mature, funny, and often a bit sad.
It's not clear, but I think this is a collection of previously published poems, but as it's my first book by Cope, it's a good introduction. Pity it wasn't longer, so I guess I'll be buying more of her work. 4⭐
