In Bloom | Paul Tremblay
8 posts | 13 read | 2 to read
There’s something in the water in this hallucinatory short story by Paul Tremblay, bestselling author of The Cabin at the End of the World and The Beast You Are.
Journalist Heidi Cohen is in Cape Cod investigating the sources of recurring toxic algae blooms along the coast. A local named Jimmy has his own theory for her. Every year the fetid growth gets worse—but it’s been going on longer than anyone knows. Decades ago, something happened to Jimmy that he’s never forgotten. Is Heidi ready for the real story?
Paul Tremblay’s In Bloom is part of Creature Feature, a collection of devilishly creepy stories that tingle the spine and twist the mind. They can be read or listened to in one petrifying sitting.

For me, short stories are a challenge to enjoy. I‘ve analyzed my struggle and concluded that‘s because most of them are too short. For instance, with Paul Tremblay‘s short story, In Bloom, I was completely sucked into the beginning. The ending was abrupt. I wish there was about 1-2 more hours, just to expand the story a bit more. I‘ll keep trying short stories; always in hope to read a gem!

You've seen the algae. It turns ponds and rivers and other waterways a bright green. It's dangerous. We all know that. But we don't know how dangerous.

Listened to for #Scarathlon this was my 5th Amazon Creature Feature book. I liked it, but didn‘t love it. While the premise was interesting it ended really abruptly, even for a story.

Not too big on the points either with just 81 #Scarathlon points for Team #SpoonyGhostClub 👻🖤👻

Read for the following readathons: #RushAThon #Spookoween #ScarathlonAtoZ #31By31 #Falling4Books #FangtasticReadathon #20in4 #StretchathonForScarathlon #LittenListen

I‘ve been looking forward to listening to this. I‘m a big fan of Paul Tremblay‘s work. This short story is about a suspicious algae overgrowth. It‘s a story-within-a-story. It‘s mildly spooky, but the narration by Dara Rosenberg and AT Chandler made me feel a delicious dread. Length is just 1 hr, 2 minutes.

Only one left for me to listen to in this Creature Feature collection! I‘m sort of sad I‘m almost done with these stories. They‘re so fun.
