In a trendy Salt Lake City, Utah, neighborhood, Ben Rosencrantzs board game shop has become a community hotspot for players of all agesand for killer collectors. Back in his hometown of Sugar House, running his familys board game shop and caf, Ben Rosencrantz just cant seem to get his life to pass go, much less collect $200. Once he was a happily married English professor in Seattle. Now hes a divorced caregiver, looking after his ill father and a Chihuahua named Beans while still figuring out the rules of retail management. At least the town has become more LGBTQ+ friendly than when Ben was a teenagerand that flower shop owner, Ezra McCaslin, enjoys flirting with him. But despite his usual clientele of gamers, Ben is barely earning enough to keep the store running and stay on top of his fathers medical bills. Then a local toy and game collector named Clive offers him a winning strategyto purchase a turn-of-the-twentieth-century edition of The Landlords Game, the realty and taxation game that inspired Monopoly, at a tenth of the rare editions true value. Suspicious of Clives shady, low-priced deal, Ben turns the offer down. Then Clive turns up dead at the front door of Bens shop and a backpack full of $100 bills appears on his doorstep. Now Ben is the #1 suspect in Clives death, and unless he and Ezra can prove his innocence and find the real killer, hell go to jail for murderand no amount of double dice rolls will set him free . . .

Life is tough for Ben, returning to Salt Lake City, after a divorce & leaving his teaching position, to help his father run their board game shop. Things only get trickier when a shady game collector ends up dead on their doorstep.

This was cute, but what I liked most about it was my love for all the real locations, (also the BYU shade😅). The pace felt too slow, & Ben was not an engaging narrator. I did like the 2ndary characters!🌕🌕🌕🌗🌑

Kenyazero I love finding books that aren‘t amazing but we‘re still fun to read! 5d

This had moments of great potential but Ben was something of a wet blanket the entire time and Ezra, while sweet didn‘t have enough personality to be a particularly interesting character.

This book had so much promise but YIKES! Everyone was so abrasive and combative. I‘m not sure if it was just the way the audio was read or what.

It‘s set in Utah, so a lot of talk about Mormons and stuff, so I found that interesting.

But the writing was awful. I‘m not sure why I finished this book.

Pickpick

The mystery was interesting in that it revolved around a valuable collectible that was a precursor to the Monopoly game we know today. I enjoyed learning the true history and all the other references to games of my childhood.
