Lonely Hearts Book Club
Lonely Hearts Book Club | Lucy Gilmore
A young librarian and an old curmudgeon forge the unlikeliest of friendships in this charming, feel-good novel about one misfit book club and the lives (and loves) it changed along the way.Sloane Parker lives a small, contained life as a librarian in her small, contained town. She never thinks of herself as lonely...but still she looks forward to that time every day when old curmudgeon Arthur McLachlan comes to browse the shelves and cheerfully insult her. Their sparring is such a highlight of Sloane's day that when Arthur doesn't show up one morning, she's instantly concerned. And then another day passes, and another.Anxious, Sloane tracks the old man down only to discover him all but bedridden...and desperately struggling to hide how happy he is to see her. Wanting to bring more cheer into Arthur's gloomy life, Sloane creates an impromptu book club. Slowly, the lonely misfits of their sleepy town begin to find each other, and in their book club, find the joy of unlikely friendship. Because as it turns out, everyone has a special book in their heart--and a reason to get lost (and eventually found) within the pages.Books have a way of bringing even the loneliest of souls together...

I wanted to stay a bit longer in my feelgood-bookish-book-bubble. This one was the next on my shelf. The end felt a bit rushed. But the thing I loved is how a book‘s story is different for everyone who reads it.

This was a book club pick and it took me by surprise, I loved it. It was so much deeper than I expected. Very heartwarming and endearing with a great cast of people who found each other at the right times in all their lives. Book #13 in 2024

Well wasn‘t this just the most wonderful book? This was picked up on a whim from a Valentine‘s Day display at the library. I was there picking up books for our book club and thought this sounded like the sweetest book. Our book ended up choosing it too and I‘ve just finished. #BookClub

I LOVED THE OPENING CHAPTER! The rest was good too but the first chapter had my whole heart. I instantly felt a connection to the main character. The end felt rushed compared to the build up and there isn't a super clear HEA though it alludes to it.

Crazeedi I need to add this! I love reading books with 'book' in the title 10mo

This is a book for book lovers and introverts. A book that makes even the gloomiest of days feel brighter and your heart warmer. It‘s a story of misfits and found family, and is a book that lifts the reader up but also reminds us of the importance of kindness and empathy.

I loved loved loved this book, all of the characters all of the heartwarming moments, the book centres on a book loving librarian thats introverted and quirky like so many of us book people are,it was a delightful read. A bookclub is formed and they share a common bond of their loneliness, regrets about their pasts, their need for true love. I fell in love with all of the characters and it was such a delightful and engaging read.⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

This one was slow to build but worth the wait. A quiet librarian in a small town in Idaho lives measured and contained life. What happens when she encounters a grumpy elderly library patron who challenges everything and tells it like it is? So lovely to see a story explore platonic love and connection between a whole group of people-a true found family. #BookspinBingo @TheAromaofBooks #Doublespin

A sweet found family story. Librarian Sloane befriends senior and difficult Arthur at the Library. One day he doesn't show up. She breaks protocol and tracks him down at home. There they strike up an uneasy caregiver/friendship bringing along other lonely book lovers in process. It was cute. 3 stars

Went to the farmer's market this morning to get some fruit and pastries! Got this yummy snow cone too! 😋 Instead of just leaving right after however, I sat with my book in the grass and read for a bit! The market is always at the pavilion in the center of town, and there's always lots of places to sit and relax. @vivastory inspired me to read in public places more often! 🥰 The live music in the background added a really nice ambience!

This was so reminiscent of Clare Pooley‘s The Authenticity Project.

I‘m a fan of this author‘s cozy series under the name Tamara Berry and this was the same easy reading with some lovely humour thrown in.

I enjoyed this one. Really liked the characters and the way they interacted, challenged, and supported each other. Their found family group was fun to get to know.

When frail but formidable former literature professor Arthur fails to show up to the library as usual, librarian Sloane, who recognizes him as a kindred spirit despite his cantankerousness, correctly guesses that he‘s sick and refusing help. Sloane pushes her way into Arthur‘s home, and his neighbor Maisey, part-time nurse Mateo, and grandson Greg soon follow.
