French Holiday
French Holiday | Sarah Ready
6 posts | 4 read | 4 to read
One (crumbling) French castle. Two enemies-at-first-sight. The holiday of a lifetime. Merry DeLuca has a problem-a big problem. Her sister just married her best friend and the only man she's ever loved. Her life is rapidly spiraling down the drain and she doesn't have an escape plan. So when Merry is offered a three-month holiday living in a romantic castle in the French countryside she leaps at the chance. Merry knows her French holiday will fix everything-there will be mouthwatering pastries, delicious (meaningless) flirtations, and languid strolls through vineyards at sunset. Her holiday will be perfect. At least, Merry believes that until she arrives and finds Noah Wright-the best man at her sister's wedding and the worst man she's ever known-staying in her castle. Famous travel documentarian by day and arrogant devil by night, Noah refuses to leave the castle. Which means that Merry and Noah are stuck together in France, in a crumbling castle, in a holiday where nothing goes right. Not for Merry and not for Noah. So they strike a truce-they'll live as cohabitating friends for three-months, and then they'll amicably part ways, never to see each other again. But the thing about friendship? Sometimes secrets are uncovered. Mysteries revealed. Hearts laid bare. And friendship can start to feel a lot like caring. A lot like love. It can even make you wish that the holiday never has to end. "...winning read about a little-discussed topic." - Kirkus Reviews on Josh and Gemma Make a Baby

This was a very light, entertaining and delightful read. Merry‘s sister has just married her best friend, and the only person Merry has ever loved. So when given the chance to spend three months in a French Castle, she jumps at the chance. Only problem is the ‘best man‘ also turns out to be staying there, and to say she dislikes him is putting it mildly.

Andrew65 This was a very enjoyable read with sone great characters, great interactions between them, and plenty of laughs along the way. Of course you could feel the direction the book was heading in, but this didn‘t spoil the reading experience at all. Before long you find yourself rooting for Merry. There are a fair few twists and turns along the way, and it also deals with some difficult themes that have impacted on Merry and Noah. (edited) 2y
Andrew65 This RomCom is brought to a very good ending that has you cheering for Merry.

If you like a good RomCom I would definitely recommend this book, and enjoyed it more than a previous Sarah Ready book I read. I listened to the audiobook, and this book was almost made for the audiobook format, and I really enjoyed the narration of it.

I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Mehso-so

Merry's is in love with her best friend Leo. Leo is marrying Merry's sister Angela. The best man, Leo's other best friend, is grumpy hunk Noah.

Noah and Merry have a hot night together, but from then on Merry's life becomes more and more of a drudge. When Merry's godmother offers her a stay at a chateau in France, Merry packs her bags for a three month stay. You can guess who's meeting her at the chateau's gates.

julesG Tropes: enemies to lovers, grump and sunshine, there's only one bed

Add a family mystery that takes over the middle of the book and puts the romance on a back burner for a bit until you get to that point where you want to know how it all works out.

I'm deducting a star/point for the OTT slapstick scenes in the kitchen.

IndianBookworm The plot is so similar to the tagged book. 2y
julesG @IndianBookworm Unhoneymooners was funnier. For me, French Holiday had too many "Emily in Paris" flashbacks. 2y
