Make the harrowing journey home with Queen Bitterblue's sister and spy, in the fifth novel in the bestselling Graceling Realm series. Hava sails across the sea toward Monsea with her sister, the royal entourage, and the worlds only copies of the formulas for the zilfium weapon she saved at the end of Winterkeep. During the crossing, Hava makes an unexpected discovery about one of the ships crew, but before she can unravel the mystery, storms drive their ship off course, wrecking them in the ice far north of the Royal Continent. The survivors must endure a harrowing trek across the ice to make it back to Monsea. And while Queen Bitterblue grapples with how to carry the responsibility of a weapon that will change the world, Hava has a few more mysteries to solveand a decision to make about who she wants to be in the new world Bitterblue will build.

I think this was my favorite out of the series! As the group travels back from Winterkeep they hit a terrible storm and bad luck after bad luck. But through perseverance they make it through each trouble they face. This was a wonderful story that made you not want to put the book down!

I‘m glad I stuck with this series as book #5 was much better than 4. Told from the POV of Hava, most of the book takes place on the ship heading back to Monsea. New friendships and formed and loyalties are tested but it‘s really healing for Hava. This last book also had more action and adventure. I‘m satisfied with the Graceling series ending so I am glad I stuck with it. ⭐️⭐️⭐️1/2 stars. #serieslove2023 @TheSpineView @Andrew65

I feel like I read a lot of books in February but my #bookspinbingo board doesn‘t seem to reflect that! Seasparrow was a #chunkster so maybe that‘s why. I got to my #doublespin but not my #bookspin; the latter has just come in from interlibrary loan. No bingo, but I‘m not really expecting to get any this year.

This is a book about the long, painful task of overcoming trauma, largely through experiencing more trauma, and through caring for others. Hava goes through a great deal in this book, and at times—especially toward the end—I did get a little impatient with her. But she learns… and also learns about ships, and relationships, and chemistry, and telepathic blue foxes. This is longer than Winterkeep, which has 3 or 4 POV chars, but it‘s all Hava!

This reminds me of my own wedding! 🥰 I wore a flower crown and it kept sliding backward every time I looked up at my husband! Luckily, mine was made of fabric and not metal, so my hairpins kept it from escaping entirely 😂

I love reading this book set in the far north, seeing the aurora borealis, right after I was in the far north and saw the aurora borealis!

One strange thing, though: The narration is mixing past and present tense with no system that I can recognize. Sometimes it seems to be Hava‘s thoughts in present tense, just skipping the italics, but sometimes it clearly isn‘t. I don‘t remember this issue with the other Graceling Realm books!

I love this! More books should tell you up front about the useful info in the back—the number of times I‘ve puzzled through words and phrases from context only to find a glossary once I‘ve finished the book…

This book also has a world map and a detailed diagram of the ship! 🥰

And it looks like I‘ll have plenty of time to read it since I just tested positive for COVID 😷

Ruthiella Sorry about the test results. Hopefully it will be a mild case. 🤞 I agree, that info should be right at the start! 2y
