Book That No One Wanted to Read
Book That No One Wanted to Read | Richard Ayoade
6 posts | 6 read | 1 to read
From actor-author-broadcaster-comedian-filmmaker Richard Ayoade comes a book narrated by . . . a book. Quirky, smart, and genre-busting, this is the saga of a book that nobody wants to read--until the day it meets YOU. The life of a book isn't easy, especially when people judge you by your cover (not every book can be adorned with sparkly unicorns!). And this narrator should know--it's the book itself, and it has a lot of opinions. It gets irritated when readers bend its pages back, and it finds authors quite annoying. But it does have a story to tell. Through witty direct address and charming illustrations, readers meet a book that has never been read, with a cover the boring color of a school lunch table and pages so dry they give bookworms indigestion. But what happens when this book meets you, a curious reader? Multitalented author Richard Ayoade and award-winning illustrator Tor Freeman bring to life a hilariously subversive take on the nature of books and reading, with a heartening theme of finding the courage to tell our own stories. Readers of all ages will be delighted by the myriad bookish references and laughs on every page.

This is a really sweet, funny, quirky book. Highly recommend listening on audio because Jarvis Cocker is as lovely and charming as ever.

This is one of the funniest books I‘ve read in a while. And I highly recommend the audiobook. I think Richard Ayoade is one of the funniest comedians so I was laughing and delighted pretty much the whole book.

Cuilin ❤️ Richard Ayoade, he‘s hilarious 😂 1y
DogEaredBooks @Cuilin so funny! I die when I watch Gadget Man (my family only thinks he‘s mildly amusing but I am confident they‘re missing out) 1y

I couldn‘t help hearing Ayoade‘s voice in my head while reading this cute, humorous children‘s book. Full of meta elements (it‘s a book written by a book) and clever illustrations, I feel like I would have loved this book as a child. As an adult, I enjoyed its sly tone and sense of humor.

Hahaha, I really wanted to not like this book but I'm laughing already:
"Top Five Things That Grate My Gears.
1. People who turn the page back to save their place. Have these savages not heard of novelty bookmarks? Or paper? Or 'memory'? Which part of your body would you most like to have folded back on itself?"
