Cheers!
Cheers!: Cocktails and Toasts to Celebrate Every Day of the Year | Philip Greene
5 posts | 3 to read
For every day of the year, Cheers! offers delicious cocktail recipes along with a backstory connecting the recipe to a particular day and a toast to raise in celebration. Greene draws on a range of interesting and (usually) fun events: some significant and some trivial, from the pages of history, literature, sports, entertainment, and more. Many of the toasts are classics culled from cocktail and bartending books dating to the nineteenth century, the works of Shakespeare, and other timeless sources.

Getting ready for new years - how about you @CBee ? I don‘t care for champagne or Prosecco generally so y toast this year will be a Pims cup. I generally enjoy a glass of wine (old world only, No CA) with dinner. I enjoy loose leaf black tea with a little milk. But my big addiction is Diet Coke. One I hope to break with the new year. How about you? #auldlangspine

CBee Hi @Sapphire 👋🏻 I love champagne! I never drink (it does weird things to my brain and interacts with certain medications I‘m on, fun lol), *but* I do love champagne 🥂 Always start the day with coffee (cream and sugar please, dark roast) and unfortunately, I‘m addicted to regular Coke. I don‘t like water but love sweet tea, and cranberry grape juice 😊 #auldlangspine 2y

I love this idea! @Chelsea.Poole are you up for "raising a cup" to kick off #auldlangspine?

What is your beverage of choice? For non-alcoholic drinks, I tend to drink tea, tea, and more tea, and then guzzle ice water in the late afternoon when I realize I need more hydration ? For alcoholic options, white wine, cider, and gin are my top picks (or a really good craft beer - either dark as can be or sour and fun)

Chelsea.Poole Yes!! I love tea also! English breakfast, Constant Comment are my favorites and a semi-local place called Churchills Tea makes a black tea I love called Lemon Drop. Any specific teas you like! Also, I‘m big on coffee as well, but usually black or if I‘m going to my local coffee shop for a special occasion I‘ll do an oat milk latte with honey and cinnamon 😋 2y
Chelsea.Poole SAME! With water guzzling 😂 your post reminds me I need to drink a full class now!! 💧 but that‘s my drink of choice for all meals — water. 2y
Chelsea.Poole Alcohol — wine(!) definitely…also I mostly do white, also cider is a favorite! But no way for gin! I love a Bloody Mary, mojito and just recently tried a grapefruit based drink at a fancy restaurant that was phenomenal and probably the best drink I‘ve had! 2y
TheKidUpstairs @Chelsea.Poole I love that we read-alike AND drink-alike! Lemon Drop tea sounds delightful. My go-to tea is Yorkshire Gold, or Barry's Irish Breakfast. But I love mixing it up with flavours, especially from David's Tea. And Fortnum and Mason's Christmas Tea is absolutely delightful this time of year.

mmm...grapefruit cocktail sounds delish. Do you remember what else was in it? I was going to start my New Year's Day with mimosas, maybe I'll go grapefruit instead of orange juice!

I learned tonight at my work holiday party that one of my colleagues is an expert cocktail historian and has written 4 books! This is his 4th book, which gives a cocktail recipe for every day of the year with a brief history of the cocktail, a quote, and a suggested mood song. 🎂🍸

Now I‘m going to go check out his other 3 books (and he is in the process of writing a new book, to be published in 2024!)
