Her Sister's Death
Her Sister's Death | K. L. MURPHY
6 posts | 5 read | 3 to read
When a reporter sets out to prove to the police that her sister didn't commit suicide, she partners with a detective who knows more than he admits about her sister, the swanky hotel where she died, and its history of death. She wanted the truth. She should have known better. When her sister is found dead in a Baltimore hotel room, reporter Val Ritter's world is turned upside down. What's worse--an empty pill bottle at the scene leads the police to believe the cause of death is suicide. With little more than her own conviction, Val teams up with a retired detective who has his own personal interest in the case. But digging into the corners of her sister's life and retracing her last days will lead them to the hotel's dark, sordid history. In 1921, another guest on the brink of womanhood will soon marry an eligible older man, sure to be a comfortable match--or is it? With time running short, Val races to uncover the truth behind her connection to the woman in 1921, and the detective who knows more than he should about her sister, the hotel, and its sinister secrets.

5✨ Yet another #OUABC selection that was hard to put down and this mystery was amazing! We have 3 POVs: Val- the victims sister, Terry- the ex detective, and Bridget- a past newlywed. Something is going on at the Franklin hotel and it‘s not clear exactly what. When Val‘s sister is found dead Val is not convinced it is a suicide. Note that there are domestic violence trigger warnings as well as suicide. Check out those gold edges! 😍

I‘m not usually into suspense - even with a bit of paranormal. Beautiful cover art. Story kept me on my toes and not wanting to stop reading. Val did go a little too crazy for me, but she did have good reason. She doesn‘t believe her sister killed herself. I do wish their connection was brought up more. Terry was the one I was more invested in. Bridget‘s side story hit hard on every occasion of her perspective. #ouabc
