I‘m not 100% enjoying this book. The main characters are book lovers in different countries who meet on a dating site. The interference of a meddling cousin (whom I LOATHE) who keeps setting her cousin up with inappropriate men. Who does that? The story is also set today, but reads like a much older book. Like the 80s maybe? Everyone is supposedly in their 30s or younger but well versed in classic lit, old b&w movies and letter writing. 🙄

Posh_Salad..AKA..LazyLimaLife I‘ve been in academia for over 30 yrs, and it‘s rare to find a 20-30 yr old who knows who Clark Gable was, let alone have read Don Quixote and The Count of Monte Cristo. We‘ll see if I complete this one. 🤷🏾‍♀️ (edited) 12mo

jenniferw88 I'm 33 - I've heard of Clark Gable, have read Don Quixote (& would have done in that age bracket), and read Count earlier this year, so I don't think it's that unrealistic 😂 12mo

Reggie I totally understand this when I read contemporary romance and one young girl has like an obsession@with Molly Ringwald and I‘m like you weren‘t even born yet!!!! 12mo

Since this is an epistolary novel, it is told almost entirely through emails and text exchanges. I am a huge fan of epistolary books, and the format worked so well for this story. The book is about two people who meet on an online dating website, so telling the story this way made perfect sense.

It‘s listed as Christian fiction but it‘s light on that if that‘s not your thing.

A book about a bookish book lover....yes please! This book was written with a fresh approach for me, it consisted of mainly emails and texts and I have to say, I loved it, it was a perfect read! Izzy was everything a main character should be, strong and full of optimism despite her difficult past. This was such a charming read, and the text/email format made it a very quick read also. It was a perfect read for me, I didn't want it to end.⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

I really loved this one, but the format may not be for everyone. It‘s written (the majority of the time) through emails/texts. I wasn‘t sure myself if I would get as much out of it that way, but surprisingly I felt that I got a personal and in-depth view of the characters with that format. Isabelle is a young woman (upper 20s), who lost both parents at a young age and was raised by her aunt and uncle, with cousins (Josephine, Luke and Penelope)🔻

robinb who became her surrogate siblings. She works with her aunt in the local library of her small hometown in North Carolina. To say she is a bibliophile is quite the understatement, and there are lots of bookish quotes/references scattered throughout the book. Josephine (controlling and pregnant with twins) signs her up for an online dating service since her matchmaking doesn‘t seem to be working. 🔻 2y

robinb Izzy decides to try it to placate her cousin and comes across Brodie, a fellow lover of books and part-owner of a chain of family bookstores, who lives on a small island near Scotland. They become friends, sharing their daily lives, hopes and dreams through emails. Brodie asks if he can visit her when he flies to NY for a conference, Luke and Penelope encourage her to take a leap, and he visits. They discover an instant attraction and decide 🔻 2y

robinb to give the relationship a (long-distance) chance (as Izzy is afraid of flying). Things progress, including a blind date set up by Josephine and Izzy moving toward following her dream, and she gains the courage to fly and visit Brodie and his family. There are, of course, a couple of complications/bumps in the road as the story plays out. I loved ALL of the characters in this one, mains and secondary. They felt real to me. 🔻 2y

robinb There‘s lots of great snarky humor, family love and growth (both personal and as a family). No sex, no language…just lots of heartwarming wonderfulness. Recommended. 4.5/5 ⭐️ 2y
