Acclaimed author Jessie Mihalik returns with an exciting new novel about a rainbow-haired female bounty hunter tasked with preventing an interstellar war. Kee Ildez has been many things: hacker, soldier, bounty hunter. She never expected to be a hero, but when a shadowy group of traitors starts trying to goad the galaxys two superpowers into instigating an interstellar war, Kee throws herself into the search to find out who is responsibleand stop them. Digging up hidden information is her job, so hunting traitors should be a piece of cake, but the primary suspect spent years in the military, and someone powerful is still covering his tracks. Disrupting their plans will require the help of her entire team, including Varro Runkow, a Valovian weapons expert who makes her pulse race. Quiet, grumpy, and incredibly handsome, Varro watches her with hot eyes but ignores all of her flirting, so Kee silently vows to keep her feelings strictly platonic. But that vow will be put to the test when she and Varro are forced to leave the safety of their ship and venture into enemy territory alone. Cut off from the rest of their team, they must figure out how to work togetherand fastbecause a single misstep will cost thousands of lives.

I really enjoyed the middle book of the Starlight's Shadow trilogy. If you want romance with a scifi setting, Mihalik is a great pick. Fluffy, but there is some action, too. In this series, the setting is a few years after a war has finally ended. It seems like someone is trying to eradicate the uneasy truce. This crew of people from both sides of the war are working together to prevent it... all while falling in love haha

This sequel is every bit as entertaining as the first book (Hunt the Stars) in the series as Tavi & her newly blended crew of humans & Valovians continue their efforts to head off a war between their two empires. Central to this story is Kee Ildez—hacker extraordinaire—& Varro Runkow—weapons specialist—who refuses to let her out of his sight. If you like your science fiction with a good dose of romance, this is a light, fun, entertaining series.

Snow squalls keep erupting making it a perfect afternoon to stay inside with a good book. I read the first book in this series ages ago when I won it in a Goodreads giveaway and was surprised by how much I liked it. I‘m hoping the tagged book proves to be equally entertaining.

(Also, this is the latest I can remember snow in forever…This is not normal.) ❄️🌨️📖🌨️❄️

currentlyreadinginCO Was going to dig in the yard today but alas the snow persists 2y

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ (3.5/5)

I enjoyed the sequel to “Hunt the Stars”, even though I didn‘t love Kee‘s and Varro‘s relationship as much as Torran‘s and Tavi‘s. The action was great, and it does a good job setting itself up for the final book in the trilogy.

Oops! Forgot to post a review of this one. Officially, this is the last book I finished in 2022.

This is a second book in a series. I think it‘s only set to be a trilogy, but not sure.

This one is about Kee. She‘s a hacker and leaves the ship to stay on the station and do some hacking. Of course Varro comes along and it‘s 1 room (2 beds) and sparks fly. And a lot of fighting and action.

I‘ve loved everything Mihalik has published so far, and while this isn‘t my favorite, I still loved it. Kee‘s insecurities were a bit much, and so much would have been solved by just TALKING TO EACH OTHER, but Kee and Varro are a good pair and it‘s a solid continuation of the story arc from Hunt the Moon. Next installment due in early 2023, which feels like forever.

#BookMail times two yesterday! I got my signed preorder of the tagged (but I‘m waiting until I get back from my trip next week to read it, sigh) and filled out my IA collection - I think I have everything except the novella anthologies and The Edge, which I didn‘t care for, and Innkeeper, which I‘ll get later this year.
