7 posts | 5 read | 4 to read
Riley Rhodes returns in the second delicious cozy set in a New England ice cream shop, Meri Allen's Mint Chocolate Murder! When Udderly Delightful Ice Cream shop manager Riley Rhodes is summoned to Pennimans Moy Mull Castle, its the cherry on top of a successful summer season. The gothic pile built by an eccentric New England Gilded Age millionaire has been transformed into a premiere arts colony by Maud Monaco, a reclusive former supermodel. As part of Moy Mulls Fall Arts Festival, Maud is throwing a fantasy ice cream social and hires Riley to whip up unique treats to celebrate the opening of an exhibit by Adam Blasco, a photographer as obnoxious as he is talented. As Penniman fills up with Mauds art-world friends arriving for the festival, gossip swirls around Blasco, who has a dark history of obsession with his models. Rileys curiosity and instincts for sleuthing she was a CIA librarian are piqued, and she wonders at the hold the cold-hearted photographer has over the mistress of Moy Mull. But when Adam is found dead behind the locked door of Moy Mulls dungeon, Riley realizes theres more than one suspect whod wanted put the malicious photographer on ice.

1, I love ice cream, so how can I not love this? 2, I adore puns and how can you say no to a series where the shop is Udderly Delicious? 3, I love that our heroine does not immediately meet someone who is supposed to be their love interest. And 4, the mysteries are always well thought out with plenty of clues and red herrings to keep you wondering before they finally solve the mystery.

I hope she writes more in this series. The small issues I had with the first book, were not in this book. This book had its own small issues - a few editing mistakes (like she rewrote a sentence but didn‘t delete one word on accident) and she got the county name Las Vegas is in wrong and we already discussed the issues with the title/cover. I loved the red herrings even though I solved it. The setting reminds me of Stars Hollow with murder.

While Mint Chocolate Murder has nothing to do with mint or chocolate it was an appealing read.

Riley Rhodes, former CIA librarian and current ice cream shop owner, is tasked with developing specialty ice cream flavors for an artist‘s opening exhibit. She then gets swept up in a mystery when a body drops during a highly anticipated local festival.

Murder! Intrigue! Red herrings! Maybe too many characters. 😅 A historical manor in a small town! Lots of lovely desserts & recipes! I like a mystery where I can see the breadcrumbs. 🌕🌕🌕🌕🌑

This is the 2nd book in the Ice Cream Shop Mystery series & I enjoyed it overall. I like Riley & the ice cream shop she runs in the quaint New England town of Penniman. The mystery was good & had a few twists that kept me guessing. If I have one complaint about this cozy mystery, it‘s the title. Call me picky but if you are going to title a book after an ice cream flavor, that flavor should at least be mentioned in the book.⬇️

DebinHawaii …Instead the flavor mentioned most often (& the ice cream recipe in the back of the book) was Pumpkin Spice & I dislike pumpkin spice SO MUCH! 🤢 But otherwise a light fun read. Start with the first: 2y
TEArificbooks I have the first book on my tbr for this month. Glad you like the series. I am the same way about titles. I read and chai wasn‘t even mentioned in the book! Really bothers me we they do that. 2y
DebinHawaii Right?! Drives me crazy! 😠 I went back & searched just to be sure—not a mention! (edited) 2y
TEArificbooks I just read the first book. In the first book it says they serve mint chocolate ice cream but it also says they don‘t add artificial color to it to make it green. That makes the cover even more frustrating. I like the cover, but it has absolutely nothing to do with the book. They need better cover/title people in cozy department of publishing companies. 2y
DebinHawaii @mdm139 It‘s been a while since I read the first book but now that you say the thing about the mint & the artificial color, it sounds familiar! I agree completely. It‘s like when a book describes a character & then the cover art is completely different from that description. 🙄 2y
