The Cage of Dark Hours
The Cage of Dark Hours | Marina Lostetter
3 posts | 4 read | 1 to read
The Cage of Dark Hours is the second novel in a new trilogy from acclaimed author Marina Lostetter, where the defeat of a serial killer back from the dead has pulled the mask off the myths and magics of a fantastical city. Krona and her Regulators survived their encounter with Charbon, the long-dead serial killer who returned to their city, but the illusions of their world were shattered forever. Allied with the healer Melanie they will battle the elite who have ruled their world with deception, cold steel, and tight control of the magic that could threaten their power, while also confronting beasts from beyond the foggy barrier that binds their world. Now they must follow every thread to uncover the truth behind the Thalo, once thought of as only a children's tale, who are the quiet, creeping puppet masters of their world. At the Publisher's request, this title is being sold without Digital Rights Management Software (DRM) applied.

Bailedbailed

I really enjoyed the first book of this series, which was a very unique sci-fantasy horror. This feels totally different and nothing has happened the first third of the book and I‘m just bored so DNFing. I do highly recommend book 1, which can be read on its own though!

Nessavamusic @dabbe for sure! I‘m reading the new Abby Jimenez and it is a total slump buster! 1mo
dabbe @Nessavamusic I nominated that one for #CampLitsy24. I hope it wins! 🤩 1mo

Pickpick

This sequel to THE HELM OF MIDNIGHT picks up about three years later, is less of a genre mashup and more straight-up high fantasy with a modern edge. Again Lostetter balances three perspectives and multiple timelines. I especially enjoyed the new characters added though I appreciated the return of familiar ones, too! The audio performance is well-done and this moves at a fast-pace that makes me eager for the next installment!

Pickpick

🎧 I loved the world created in The Helm of Midnight & at least 2 of the 3 main POVs!

Can‘t share who lives/dies/disappears in book 1 but I loved 2/3 of the main POVs in this book too!

The magic, world, relationships, characters, story all expand!

Child stealing? Wasn‘t thrilled with them.

The Regulators? Still fascinating.

The more I read the more I was captivated & couldn‘t put it down.

If you liked book 1 you‘ll love book 2!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️3/4
