“If you want to save your mother, listen very carefully.“
So many of my 4th graders love this book! It deals with more mature themes like loss, but also brings a lot of action!
A graphica novel about a girl, Emily, and her brother, Navin, who find a magical amulet following a car accident where they lost their dad. The amulet warns Emily that her family is in danger, and monsters begin attacking them. She is given a quest to locate her grandfather, Silas, to help them. Read to learn more!

This is the first graphic novel that I have ever read! Unfortunately, I wasn't very impressed. The parallel universe was too random for me, and the main story line lacked any common sense so I kept being drawn out of the story. Probably engaging for early readers though.
An incredible book! I love the story this book tells, and definitely want this in my future classroom library!
It chronicles the misadventures of Emily, a young girl who finds a magical circular amulet in her great-home grandfather's that is sentient and autonomous. Additionally, because she was wearing the amulet, she had to escape the adventure and creatures with her friends, the amulet spoke to her important things, this is an adventurous graphica that covers all details that graphicas can hold!
I can see how young readers would really enjoy this story. There is mystery and magic with dark twists and turns on every page in both words and illustrations. Though it is a story about magic, there is more at stake than a typical magic story.
This story follows a family after a tragedy as they move to a new mysterious home. The children‘s mom gets kidnapped by a monster and it is up to them to save her using a magic stone. The darker images set the tone of the story to be gloomy and very mysterious.
So good I‘m on to book 2 right away and already plotting how I‘ll get the rest!
Not sure this picture will do it justice but wow, the art in this is amazing!
