#2016booksyoumissedouton The Tourist was published in 2016 & added to my collection in 2016 (thank you #bookriotlive @bookriot ) The bottom three were acquired in 2016, but not published then. #readjanuary @RealLifeReading
I wanted to like this book. The premise was so interesting, and the first couple of chapters really caught my attention. But, as many other readers have said, it was just too confusing. Too many terms and characters were only partially introduced. With more revision, I think this could have been a great book. As it is, I struggled to finish it.
What to pack... I was thinking Swing Time, but it's such a large book to fit in my bag. One of these perhaps?
During the Book Riot Podcast with Jeff and Rebecca (which was hysterical) they gave away copies of this book! There was also a Bingo card - my favorite square was "Someone Flails/Muppet Arms" ?

So confusing! Honestly, this felt like reading an early draft of something with a whole lot of potential but a need of extensive editing. There were some great concepts & the writing is very good in parts, but the storyline is muddled & confused and it seemed to be leading to a big reveal that never really happened. Possibly I'm just a bit too dim but it left me wondering what on earth I'd just read.
Confusing book seems much less confusing after two of these beers...
This seems like a pretty valid definition of Internet.
The hottest conspiracy thriller....what conspiracy? What PLOT??? Where is the story? I am honestly just mad at this book for wasting my time. Mad. At a book. Nothing really happens. Literally: Some stuff happens. Ooh, mystery! Wait, no. Not mystery at all....how disappointing. Later, the mystery is confirmed to be completely unmysterious.
I thought about throwing this two stars, but this book and I, we're still not talking. Don't bother.
I really don't have a clue what happened in this book. I got confused as to who was who throughout. It involved traveling in time travel reps, multiple versions of people and people pretending to be versions of people. It held my interest, but only because I was trying so hard to figure out what was going on. If somebody knows, please tell me!
This quote makes me somewhat sad and relieved at the same time.
Still not sure what I read if I'm honest with you. The ending left me scratching my head as to what the whole point of the story was. It reminds me of watching 2001 and not knowing what the hell it was all about except for a few vague bits that might have made sense at one point but not at another. It's original and very complex in the story line and it displays a wonderful imagination on the writers part.
Exciting rain! How thrilling! (This was typed in sarcasm font).
I'm just at the half way mark and think I'm finally figuring out who's who, what time line is when and what's going on. This one is a struggle, interesting but a struggle.
I started this tonight and I'm confused as hell as to what is going on. So far I can't make heads or tails of it.
I really tried but I finally had to bail on this one. With the author's insistence on keeping everything so vague and so "secret," it just made this book confusing and impossible to follow or even care about the story or the characters. I'm curious to hear what others think of it. The good news is that I'm now at 73% on Netgalley.

Today's book haul. The top three are from the library. I tried to get the first Lumberjanes but they couldn't find it. 🙁 The bottom book came in the mail from Hachette.
Another new one from Netgalley...I think I just need to accept the fact that I'll never, ever catch up, lol, and just enjoy. Currently I'm at 65% there. This one looks like it might be pretty good.
