Mehso-so

I finished this yesterday evening and I have to say for a book that was over 500 pages with 180 pages of endnotes I was disappointed. It‘s a 9/11 behind the scenes story - events that led up to the day, however the book abruptly ends on July 9, 2001. And much of the book hinges around a conspiracy theory - that key US sources were aware of the attack and did nothing as a way to enter the war in Afghanistan. Not buying that!!!

BarbaraBB Sorry to hear it ended up disappointing 2y
Cinfhen Thanks @BarbaraBB I was really enjoying it - hope all went well this weekend for you 💕 2y
Librarybelle Hooray for the bonus! 2y

Still chipping away at this book - it‘s sort of cool to be inside the heads of the 9/11 hijacker‘s as they begin to Americanize themselves. From getting their hair cut & styled, to tasting alcohol and speaking directly to women. It was such a HUGE operation on SO MANY levels. Really shocking what they were able to carry out. And according to this book, SOME in the US intelligence KNEW that a MAJOR terrorist attack was being carried out on US soil

kspenmoll Yes, some did tragically enough. Book sounds fascinating. Not sure I could stomach it as 2 close fiends of mine lost so much- one a brother whom I knew, another‘s father lost his whole business/employees that were on a high floor. (edited) 2y
Cinfhen It‘s still such a raw tragic event @kspenmoll especially for those on the east coast who had ties to people who worked in the WTC and Pentagon. It‘s a hard book for sure. The author read all 8000 pages of the CIA‘s commission report so this book is VERY detailed. 2y
BarbaraBB Seems like such a good read. 2y
Cinfhen It is @BarbaraBB and BONUS I‘m using it for #ReadingAfrica22 #Libya - it discusses politics of several African countries and luckily Libya is one of those countries along with #Sudan and #Djibouti ( which surprisingly I read 2y
BarbaraBB Thanks for the Djibouti suggestion 😀 2y

About halfway through this chunkster!! It‘s really interesting and jammed pack with fascinating information. It‘s just hard to know what is real and where liberties have been taken. So far there have been 592 endnotes and I‘m on page 358.

TrishB That‘s a lot! 2y

I can‘t say why but I was drawn to this book today after having it sit on my shelves for nearly a year🙄 Based on 8,000 pages of CIA documents, a fictionalization of the 9/11 hijacker‘s lives. So far it‘s GRIPPING!!! And it‘s quite the #Chunkster 😱

Cinfhen My #CurrentRead @Megabooks along with this book that im also loving 2y
Megabooks I was so tempted by Horse but I‘m just still so unsure about historical fiction. Eagerly awaiting your review!! 2y
Cinfhen Horse is making me think of you @Megabooks because 1. Setting - Kentucky and then 2. So much about Horses and as a vet I‘m sure you‘d find it fascinating plus art plus slavery the book has everything. I‘m doing a print/audio combo and im enjoying both formats. Multi cast narration is good 👍🏽 2y

MicheleinPhilly Did you lose a bet? That is HUGE. 2y
CBee Wow 😮 I‘m impressed!! 2y
TheRiehlDeal 😮😮😮 How many pages is that book?! I‘ve never seen such a doorstopper of a book in my life! Certainly makes Stephen King‘s IT look like a breeze. 2y
Cinfhen It looks a bit more MASSIVE than it actually is @TrishB @BarbaraBB @MicheleinPhilly @CBee @TheRiehlDeal it‘s just under 800 pages but almost 90 pages are endnotes & source material!!!! Plus the print is a decent size 😁 2y

#BookMail Warmth is for my IRL bookclub and the other two I ordered off the #ToB22LongList ( oh well) Hopefully I can slot them into other challenge prompts.

TrishB 2 of them look like more big books! 3y
squirrelbrain They look huuuuge! 📚 3y
Cinfhen Warmth is 545 and another 70 pages of notes and History is 590 with more than 100 pages of endnotes @TrishB @squirrelbrain BUT YESSSSSSS, I‘ve become a girl who #LikesBigBooks …..in moderation 😁😘 3y

Cinfhen This one looks like a book you can #ReadInOneSitting 3y
sarahbarnes I did read Edie Richter in more or less one sitting. It didn‘t really work for me, but will be interested to hear what you think of it! 3y
DivineDiana I loved Warmth! I am very impressed with the skill of Isabel Wilkerson‘s ability to draw you into the story, and it is a powerful one. 3y
Cinfhen I‘m very much looking forward to reading it with my bookclub @DivineDiana (edited) 3y
Cinfhen I‘ll keep you posted @sarahbarnes - I‘m not really a fan of stream of consciousness writing and I think that might be an issue with this book (edited) 3y
