Tom Violet always thought that by the time he turned thirty-five, hed have everything going for him. Fame. Fortune. A beautiful wife. A satisfying career as a successful novelist. A happy dog to greet him at the end of the day. The reality, though, is far different. Hes got a wife, but their problems are bigger than he can even imagine. And hes written a novel, but the manuscript hes slaved over for years is currently hidden in his desk drawer while his father, an actual famous writer, just won the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction. His career, such that it is, involves mind-numbing corporate buzzwords, his pretentious archnemesis Gregory, and a hopeless, completely inappropriate crush on his favorite coworker. Oh . . . and his dog, according to the vet, is suffering from acute anxiety.Toms life is crushing his soul, but hes decided to do something about it. (Really.) Domestic Violets is the brilliant and beguiling story of a man finally taking control of his own happinesseven if it means making a complete idiot of himself along the way.

⭐️⭐️⭐️ Tom Violet is having, um, bedroom performance problems. 🥴 His job sucks, his marriage is suffering. He‘s a damn mess. What he wants is to become a writer like his narcissistic, literary award-winning father. As expected, everything pretty much goes to hell, but I couldn‘t help pulling for Tom, even though he‘s not without fault. I like a good male-authored relationship/family fiction now and then. Plus, Norman brings the dark humor.

Cinfhen Hmmm, I think I‘m intrigued 😆 4y

britt_brooke @Cinfhen It‘s a definite borrow. That‘s what I did. 😉 4y
Reggie The part when he tells his daughter something about the picture she drew and then she says that‘s mom‘s friend from the gym….. yikes. I really liked this book. 4y
britt_brooke @Reggie YES. I died a little for Tom. I‘ve heard similar real-life situations like that (thankfully, not firsthand). I cannot imagine finding out that way. 4y

I absolutely love everything this man writes! Although a slightly unrealistic and silly family drama, in 'Domestic Violets' Matthew Norman has created a wonderfully complex family of quirky, imperfect, flawed and totally lovable characters. His writing is fluid and funny, amazingly relatable and the story of the Violet family is uplifting and heartwarming. An absolute must read! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ #Booked2020 #covercrush #LitsyAtoZ #abecedarianTBR #D

Cinfhen Great review to go with the great cover 🥰thanks for sharing❣️❣️❣️ 5y

Dewey's Readathon countdown, Day 8: The prompt is "funny." One of my favorite genres is "humorous midlife existential angst," which I just made up. And this book nails it. #readathon #30DaysofReadathon ???

merelybookish Good genre. I think Maria Semple fits! 7y
callielafleur This book is SO FUNNY. Excellent choice! Everybody read it! 7y
Echo “humorous midlife existential angst” is one of my fav genres too! Have you read his book “We‘re All Damaged”? 6y

"So I'm following the map that leads to you." This story is told from the view of a 30 something smartass. He's in a midlife crisis. Things are not looking too hot on the home front or at the job. Luckily he has a #map in the form of a philandering father who happens to be a well loved author to help him find his way back. This book is about relationships, familial and spousal, and is funny and poignant. Good stuff.

BB1958 A 30 something in a midlife crisis- these millennialist can't wait can they. Looks like another book to add to my list 8y

This one was boring. It was a meandering story of a 35 year old man re-evaluating his life. A lot of self pity involved. Did read it all the way through so that's why 2 stars.

I loved this quick read! It was funny and vulnerable and very human. If you're looking for something quick and witty and touching, this is the perfect read.

Well-ReadNeck He has a recent release, We're All Damaged, which is available on kindle for $4.99! 8y
CherylDeFranceschi @Well-Read Neck Thanks for the tip! It is already on my Kindle, but will probably have to wait a bit, as my TBR is currently the size of Cleveland! 8y
