Ok back to Star Wars, anime-style.

I know Visions is experimental rather than canonical but this feels like Star Wars in name only. Candon's sensibility is just too cynical for Star Wars: every character is morally comprised; Jedi and Sith are merely factions in a power struggle. It would be better as a sci-fi reimagining of feudal Japan without the Star Wars branding. Despite the fact that they're all haunted, hunted, and traumatized, the central characters have great chemistry.

One problem with this book is that several of the characters have mysterious backstories. This is meant to set up dramatic reveals but it also means that it's hard to really grasp who the characters are because you know so little of their history--it's disorienting.

Interesting description of the Force, inspired by Taoism, as the "white flare and black current."

This novel expands the story from the animated short "The Duel" from Star Wars: Visions. I really like the idea of blending Star Wars with other genres. The first two chapters cover the events of the original short, while the rest of the book tells the larger story of this mysterious former Sith hunting down other Sith.

I loved this book based on a character introduced in one of the Star Wars Visions anime shorts. This story of a mysterious, nameless man wandering the Outer Rim haunted by his past & uncertain of his future is richly imbued with everything that makes Star Wars…well, Star Wars…while expanding on the currently known universe in exciting ways. Dark & filled with mystery & adventure, this story of Jedi & Sith is fantastic.

This book is interesting, as it steps outside of the current Star Wars canon to tell a unique story that‘s so different than what we‘re used to. While the plot was great, character elements made dialogue very difficult to understand.
