Girl in the Walls
Girl in the Walls: A Novel | A. J. Gnuse
11 posts | 11 read | 11 to read
A mesmerizing and suspenseful coming-of-age novel about an orphan hiding within the walls of her former family homeand about what it means to be truly seen after becoming lost in life Eventually, every hidden thing is found. Elise knows every inch of the house. She knows which boards will creak. She knows where the gaps are in the walls. She knows which parts can take her in, hide her away. Its home, after all. The home her parents made for her, before they were taken from her in a car crash. And home is where you stay, no matter what. Eddie is a teenager trying to forget about the girl he sometimes sees out of the corner of his eye. But when his hotheaded older brother senses her, too, they are faced with the question of how to get rid of someone they arent sure even exists. And as they try to cast her out, they unwittingly bring an unexpected and far more real threat to their doorstep. Written with grace and enormous heart, Girl in the Walls is a novel about carrying on through grief, forging unconventional friendships, and realizing, little by little, that we dont need to fear what we do not understand.

I was reading this for IRL book club. I just can‘t make myself keep going. The audio narrator was fine but this is just not that interesting to me right now.

3-6-22: My 22nd finished book of 2022! Elise, an 11 year old girl, literally lives inside the walls, nooks and crannies, of her old home. After the death of her parents, with nowhere to go, Elise arrives at her old home, now occupied by a new family. The teenage boys who live there are positive that something is in their house, eating their food and moving their stuff. Will they figure out who‘s there? ⭐️⭐️⭐️📖#️⃣2️⃣2️⃣

An unusual story with a pretty literal title. Lead character Elise had taken to living in the walls of her old home after her parents untimely death. Elise, unable to move on, has returned to her old home. Complicating matters is that the home is occupied by a new family. A well written tale that deals with some dark themes related to grief and isolation among other things. I enjoyed this story. Gotta root for Elise even if she is a trespasser.

I haven't been thrifting for books in quite awhile! After a few shops that were duds I finally hit a jackpot! $5 for the two new releases!
I adored No Exit by Adams and this new one was one of my most anticipated of the year! I've not heard the best reviews for it so I halted on purchasing it at full price. SO glad I did! 🥳 Can't wait to see what I think of it!

Hundred pages in and I‘m just bored.....it‘s not creepy or gothic and it‘s just not engaging me. Seem to be a lot of good reviews here/goodreads/Amazon but 🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️

What an absolutely absorbing read!! Though I have a million things to do, I kept finding myself picking this up for just one more quick chapter. Fast-paced, original and totally riveting, the story of not only the titular girl in the walls, but also of the family that she shared her home, makes for a memorable read! The writing is both haunting and electrically charged- the characters come to life and I totally loved it!!

I found this gothic style story very unusual and imaginative. It‘s atmospherically and vividly written with some fascinating characters. This is such a bizarre and different read but oddly gripping, a story about grief and survival. I can wholeheartedly (with a little trepidation!) recommend it. I promise you‘ll never look at the walls in your house in the same way again! 👀. #Pigeonhole
